1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 2 4.2 2+2

This Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 2+2 is a wonderful example of the iconic British coupe, offered from long-term ownership and with very low mileage.

Under the bonnet sits the matching-numbers 4.2-litre naturally aspirated straight-six which is fed by triple SU carburettors, and delivers around 265bhp and 283lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

While the owner believes this is a genuine low-mileage example, the odometer reading of 34,337 km is not warranted.

The car has been kept in storage for the past 21 years following the death of its previous keeper, and it has now been in the seller’s possession for a total of 11 years.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This E-Type coupe comes finished in its handsome factory hue of Opalescent Dark Blue, with a retrimmed grey leather-clad interior and a wood-rimmed steering wheel and gear knob.

As indicated by the ‘P’ prefix to the chassis number, this car left the factory with power steering.

A more modern Blaupunkt Ausburg radio/cassette player has been fitted.

Several registration documents will accompany the vehicle, along with its Jaguar Heritage Trust production record certificate, a spare wheel, and a toolkit. A FIVA card is also on file.

CONDITION

There has been no known bodywork damage.

The Opalescent Dark Blue paintwork has previously been resprayed and is in very good overall condition, with a few small stone chips on the front bumper, the bonnet and around the headlights.

Inside, the grey leather seats have recently been re-trimmed, and they are now in great shape.

Elsewhere, the black vinyl-trimmed dashboard and the car’s various buttons and switches show some general signs of age-related wear.

Otherwise, there are no known electrical or mechanical faults.

The seller reports that the car starts and runs very well, and that it has recently had a full road test at highway speeds.

SERVICE HISTORY

This Series 2 E-Type’s most recent service was conducted at the seller’s racing workshop.

During the vendor’s ownership, the shock absorbers and rubbers have been replaced, along with the brakes and the steering rack.

SUMMARY

This matching numbers Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 2+2 is an undeniably beautiful 1960s sports coupe, which is offered in impressive overall condition having spent the past 21 years in storage and benefitting from a previous respray and interior re-trim. Offered in fine mechanical health, it would now make a wonderful companion for long countryside jaunts, and a discerning addition to any collection of British classics.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
