Ebay item 7/2/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Jaguar-XKE-Coupe-/330757599900
Current bid $15,000 reserve not met, 6 bids 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Beautifully restored 1970 Jaguar XKE hardtop coupe. We are selling this car for a friend who has owned it for approximately 8 years. This is a 4.2 litre engine with dual Stromberg Zenith carbs. The transmission is the 4 speed manual. The car was completely frame-up restored in South Carolina by a well known restoration company. The car was repainted in its original beautiful Ascot Fawn color and retrimmed in its original beige leather interior. The restoration is of exceptional quality.

The car number is P1R27343 as shown on the id plate. The engine number on the plate is 7R9252-9. Somewhere along the way the engine was replaced by number 7R2054-9 which is an XKE coupe engine from approximately 1969. The body number is 4R22895.

The car is licensed and inspected and can be test driven and inspected at any time.

The car has never seen rain or snow. It has been stored inside and driven approximately 3000 miles in the last 8 years. We believe that the mileage shown of 52,505 is original.

The car drifves beautifully. It is fast and smooth. The clutch, brakes and suspension are fine. The engine is smooth and does not smoke or burn oil. The 4-speed gearbox is quiet. I found that to engage reverse gear, I had to press quite hard to the left before pulling it down into reverse. It might need some lubrication there. All electrics are good (it has passed New York State inspection). The air conditioning has lost its charge. The tires are Goodyear and fine. The wire wheels look great but could use a cleaning.

The interior is excellent. Carpeting is near perfect. The door panels and headliner are perfect. The dash and gauges and steering wheel are fine. Some of the metal knobs on the dash are somewhat worn (see photo). All glass is excellent. The paint is beautiful except for a 1" bubble/chip on the hood (see photo). The flaw was on the car when it was purchased 8 years ago. The door gaskets are in nice shape. The gasket seal on the rear hatch is soft and pliable but has a cracked and deteriorated surface and probably should be replaced.

All the chrome is great. The only ding on the chrome is a small 1/2" round indentation on the driver's door chrome trim at top center. All lenses are fine. The exhaust system is not stainless but it is fine. The vinyl is coming unglued in a couple of places on the edges of the posts. This can easily be reglued. The exhaust manifolds are not rusty but they are a flat black color rather than the shiny porcelain. There are no exhaust leaks. There are no major fluid leaks from under the car. The car runs very cool at about 85 degrees C. Oil pressure is fine. Included is the original shift knob. All the gauges (speedometer, tachometer, gas, oil pressure, ammeter, temperature, etc.) work fine. The car has its original Unit and WASO keys and all locks work.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II Fixed-Head Coupe finished in Ascot Fawn over beige leather. Power is from a replacement 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, and the car is optioned with power steering and air conditioning. A restoration was reportedly performed in South Carolina in 2008, and the car was in the care of the previous owner’s family for some 20 years before being acquired by the selling dealer a year ago. The seller has since performed an oil change and also added approximately 250 miles. This E-Type is now being offered with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and a clean California title.

As part of the restoration, the exterior was repainted in its factory hue of Ascot Fawn. The Series II XKE is denoted by its uncovered headlights, larger front turn-signal lights, and taillights mounted below the rear bumper.

The Fixed-Head-Coupe model has a side-hinged rear hatch that accesses the carpeted luggage compartment. 15″ chrome wire wheels are mounted with earless hubs and wear Cooper CS5 Ultra tires.

The two-seat interior is trimmed in beige leather with matching carpets. The seatbelts have Jaguar logos, and the rear storage area is pictured in the gallery below.

This car was optioned with air conditioning, and the vents are visible along the bottom of the dash. A later stereo also is fitted, and the steering wheel features a wood rim. The five-digit odometer shows just under 53k miles.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features dual carburetors and is a replacement unit sourced from a 1969 XKE. It is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer has performed an oil and filter change.

Additional pictures of the underside are included in the gallery below, showing the mufflers, independent rear suspension, floor pans, and exhaust outlets.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate indicates that the car was manufactured in November of 1969, and also lists the original serial numbers and colors.
