Lot #84476

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was produced in April 1970 and was acquired out of longterm storage by the seller’s father in December 2014. The car is finished in dark silver over blue vinyl and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, Smiths instrumentation, and an aftermarket AM/FM radio. A mechanical refurbishment undertaken in 2017 included rebuilding the brakes, carburetors, pedal box, clutch, and differential as well as refreshing the fuel and ignition systems. The radiator was re-cored and the tires were replaced as were the rear suspension trailing arms and bushings, the center section of the exhaust system, and the hoses, belts, and filters. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of his father with owner’s and shop manuals, service records, spare and replacement parts, and a clean North Carolina title in the owner’s name.

The body was repainted in dark silver under previous ownership. Features include wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders, a louvered clamshell hood, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and a driver-side mirror. The headlights are inoperative, and a black convertible top with deteriorated fabric and a corroded frame has been removed but is included in the sale. The floor pans have been replaced with flat metal panels. There are paint bubbles, corrosion, chips, and peeling paint as well as a windshield crack and scratches. Rust is noted on the quarter panels and floorboards.

Chrome 15″ wire-spoke wheels secured with branded continental knock-off nuts are wrapped in Diamond Back Auburn Premium redline tires, and a matching spare stows beneath the floor in the trunk. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs for which the master cylinder, servo, calipers, discs, pads, soft lines, and fluid reservoir bottles have been replaced. The rear suspension trailing arms and bushings have been replaced. The car was ordered with optional power steering, though the seller notes that the pump leaks and has been bypassed using a custom hose.

The interior was reupholstered in blue vinyl under previous ownership. Appointments include a padded armrest, a locking glovebox, a passenger-side grab handle, a Smiths clock, and a Panasonic push-button AM/FM radio. The car was ordered with optional air conditioning that has since been removed, though a stock compressor and a replacement housing and vents are included in the sale. The turn-signal switch has been replaced, and the pedal box is said to have been rebuilt.

A three-spoke steering wheel with a refurbished wood rim fronts a 160-mph Smiths speedometer and a matching 6k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for battery, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles, a handful of which were driven under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six breathes through a pair of rebuilt Zenith-Stromberg 175 CD-2 carburetors and stock exhaust manifolds flowing into a replacement aluminized muffler and pipes with stock stainless-steel resonators. A Pertronix electronic ignition and coil have been installed, and the distributor cap and rotor were replaced along with the spark plugs and ignition wires. The fuel tank, pump, lines, filter, and sending unit have been replaced along with the cooling hoses, fan belts, and filters. The seller notes the presence of oil leaks.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a rebuilt limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders have been replaced along with the fluid reservoir bottle and hose. Corrosion is noted on the underbody.

The number P1R13437 stamped on the frame matches the number stamped on the manufacturer’s date plate located on the driver-side door jamb.

The car is accompanied by owner’s and shop manuals, a parts catalog, and a restoration guide plus spare and removed parts including a convertible top frame, trim, and soft top, a matching boot cover, an air-conditioner compressor, a replacement air-conditioner housing and vents, brake components, and an uninstalled set of Joe Curto adjustable carburetor jets. The owner’s service records since 2014 are also included.
