This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a left-hand-drive Series II roadster that was sold new in the US and imported to Canada by the seller in 2014. A subsequent refurbishment included a repaint in Signal Red, refreshment of its 4.2-liter inline-six, installation of three overhauled SU carburetors, suspension and brake work, and more. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission, and additional features include a period radio modified with an auxiliary input and a tan canvas top with a matching boot. Oil and brake fluid changes were performed in April 2019 along with a coolant flush. This Series II XKE is offered with a Jaguar Information Record, refurbishment receipts, and clean Ontario registration in the seller’s name. This example was reportedly disassembled and repainted in its original red under the seller’s ownership. The chrome bumpers, trim, and badging are also said to have been replated.
The tan soft top is photographed and a matching canvas boot is included in the sale. Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear Avon radial tires. A new steering rack, shocks, springs, bushings, brake calipers, rotors, pads, and lines are among the items replaced during the refurbishment, and a brake fluid change was performed in April 2019.
The tan leather interior features bucket seats with perforated inserts and headrests, lap belts, and matching carpets with Jaguar-branded floor mats. Additional work included replacement of the steering column and dashboard panel rocker switches as well as modification of a period radio with an auxiliary input. A stock air conditioner remains fitted under the dash. Just under 54k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 4k of which have been added by the seller. The clock is said to be inoperable.
The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was factory-rated at 246 horsepower for the US market. Work carried out by Engineered Automotive of Concord, Ontario in August 2017 included decarbonizing the pistons as well as installation of new main bearings, gaskets, valve springs, cylinder head studs, water and oil pumps, and timing chain dampers. A new radiator and gear-reduction starter were also installed. Induction is via rebuilt triple SU carburetors, and a stainless steel exhaust system has been added. Invoices and photos from the engine service can be seen in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. A new rear main seal and clutch were installed during the 2017 work, while an oil/filter change and coolant flush were performed in April 2019.
The October 1991 Jaguar Vehicle Information Record shows a build date of November 19, 1969 and lists original colors, engine, and body numbers.
