My Mom bought #890650 new in 1964. Since my Dad passed away, she has been selling a lot of assets to become as liquid as possible. She's had the itch to sell this car for about three years, but I convinced her to keep it. Just lately, that itch started again, so I manged to buy it from her. It needs work, but is an okay driver as is. Zero rust, no accidents and mostly original at 124,000 miles. It was repainted snow white and has black vinyl upholstery. After I get the mechanical situation under control, I'll work on the cosmetics. It will again be Carmen red with beige leather, vinyl and hardura.

This car has been in my family since it was new. I'm proud to be the caretaker of this car.

Lot #127690

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was completed on May 29, 1964 and reportedly remained with the family of its original owner until its acquisition by the selling dealer in February 2018. Finished in red over beige upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.8L inline-six equipped with a modified cylinder head, triple SU carburetors, Carrillo connecting rods, a tubular exhaust header, an aluminum radiator, and an electronic distributor. A five-speed manual transmission has also been added, along with Wilwood front brake calipers and drilled and slotted rotors, Koni shocks, a lightweight flywheel, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. This Series I XKE coupe is now offered with removed and spare parts, manufacturer’s literature, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, a historical photo, service records, and a clean California title.

The car was finished from the factory in Carmine Red and is said to have been repainted under prior ownership. Exterior details include a louvered clamshell hood, covered headlights, pop-out rear windows, split chrome bumpers with overriders, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and a side-hinged rear hatch.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-series Michelin XVS tires showing 2016 date codes. The car is equipped with fully independent suspension with Koni dampers, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs with Wilwood front calipers, slotted and cross-drilled front rotors, and inboard-mounted rear rotors.

The cabin was refreshed in 2014, at which time the seats were rebuilt and reupholstered in beige leather and a replacement headliner and carpets were installed. A Blaupunkt push-button radio is fitted in the dash.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, less than 100 of which have been added by the selling dealer. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual-overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors with intake trumpets. The engine was rebuilt by XK’s Unlimited of San Luis Obispo, California in 2014, at which time the clutch was replaced and the cylinder head was modified with larger valves. Carrillo connecting rods were also added, and additional modifications include a 123ignition electronic distributor, a CoolCat aluminum radiator, a tubular exhaust header, a gear-reduction starter, and a lightweight billet aluminum flywheel.

A custom five-speed manual transmission with an aluminum bell housing was also installed using a conversion kit sourced from American Powertrain under prior ownership. The removed four-speed manual transmission will accompany the car.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

The chassis stamping 890650 is listed as the VIN on the title prepended with “J64.” The California title is listed as a duplicate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.
