    Ebay item 10/15/04
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $1,125.00 (Reserve not met), 5 bids, 2 days left in auction. Buy it now price $3,995.

    Sellers description:
For auction is a 1964 Jaguar XKE Series One covered headlight "E-Type" Coupe project. A Ford 289 Engine was fitted for reliability and power. It appears to have started out it's life as a Red car with Light Tan interior trim, however there's no identification plate to confirm this. Included is the original lead hammer to remove the wire wheel's two-eared knockoff hubs.

There's been some rust repair, along with some visible rust through, but not so extensive as to make it unrepairable. Though the floors appear generally solid, there's been fiberglass and/or bondo repair in the corner of the spare tire area, some poor repair around the wheel wells, and recent more quality looking repair work in the rockers. (This is not a complete list of shortcomings.) The grills on the sides are obviously not original, but look very cool!

It was driven by a man who passed away in the mid '90's, who put the V8 engine in to do vintage racing just before he died. This car has been handed between his relatives and must now be sold to make room for a home expansion. It had 73,820 miles when titled in 1996 after his passing. This is a neighbor's car, and my scant information comes from the present owner.

The Ford V8 runs and seems to be installed well. Don't expect to drive this car away. The brakes aren't operable, perhaps the master cylinder is bad, so a flat bed is required for removal.

The California title reads 73,820 original miles. They usually won't put mileage on a title more than 10 years old. It's on California "NON-OP", so there's no back registration due. The plates are 1999 California. I believe the car came from out of state, but the Ohio plates aren't from the car.

It's possible to restore this classic automobile, but that would require work by a skilled body man. As well, a proper 4.2 liter engine and fittings, and quality finishing would be required to make this a $35,000 automobile. It's more easily a very cool "driver" with cheap body work, brakes and what not.

Kelly blue book lists the value of a '64 E Type coupe in their lowest condition, "fair", as $9050. It is what it is, a rusted relic, a diamond in the rough, or an assemblage of parts. What you see is what you get. There's no guarantee or warranty of any kind associated with this sale. This car requires complete restoration, please bid appropriately. I've added a low reserve to allow a reasonable "buy it now" price of less than half the Blue book value. Bidding starts at only $19.64.

Remember, this isn't a bulbous 2+2, but the much more desirable 2 seater "Fixed Head Coupe", WITH covered headlights.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
