Seen for sale in 2008. Scruffy car but a lot spent a few years ago. Parked for quite awhile.

Lot #86545

This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner as a non-running project out of California in 2013 and is said to have subsequently received a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment that included repainting the body, refreshing the interior, and overhauling the engine, transmission, differential, and suspension. The car is finished in blue over blue leather and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes triple SU carburetors, 15” wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an aftermarket radio. This XKE coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a tool roll, a jack, and a Washington title that lists the model year as 1964.

The car was finished in Opalescent Silver Blue from factory and was repainted under current ownership. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, headlight covers, a louvered hood, and a stainless-steel exhaust system with twin central outlets.

Chrome 15” wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires that show 2018 and 2019 date codes. A full-size spare is stowed in the trunk. The seller states that the suspension was overhauled as part of the refurbishment.

The cabin was redone under current ownership and is trimmed in dark blue leather along with color-coordinated carpeting and door panels. Features include bucket seats, lap belts, and an aftermarket radio.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,000-rpm redline. Center-mounted instruments include gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just under 100 miles, and true mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment and is equipped with triple SU carburetors and a lower-degree camshaft.

Cylinder-head stamping RA1922-9 matches the engine number listed on the chassis plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. The same number appears to be stamped into the engine block.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a later-model replacement four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date of May 1, 1963, and initial distribution by Jaguar Cars of New York along with original colors, equipment, and serial numbers.

The Washington title lists the car’s color as yellow and the model year as 1964.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
