This fully matching numbers 3.8 litre E-Type, or XKE in the US market, is a two-owner car from new and which has been with the current owner for the past 32 years. He purchased it from the first owner in January 1978, both keepers living in California. He thinks the first owner collected the car from Browns Lane and personally imported it to Salinas, California in 1963. As we write this we are checking the Heritage Certificate information. The Jaguar is in its original colour scheme of opalescent silver blue with dark blue interior. It was repainted in August 1984 by XK’s Unlimited at which time they also took the glass out and renewed all of the door and window rubbers/seals and the chrome bumpers were replated. The window chrome is still all original so retaining its patina of age. The engine cylinder head was rebuilt at 63,200 miles, again by XK’s Unlimited, in November 1984 since when it has travelled a further 7,000 miles or so, currently reading 70,400. Fairly recently new mufflers were fitted (not stainless).
The painted wire wheels are original to the car and it sits on Michelin X radial 205/75 x 15 radial tyres, so fitted as they allow more tread on the road but still fit nicely to the hubs. The interior is the original dark blue with vinyl seats covering the original blue leather and the current owner wrapped a leather with foam steering wheel cover, hand sown, to preserve the original from the California sun. The dash top and gear lever gaiter (shifter boot in US parlance) were renewed when the car was repainted. The wind wings are apparently original to the car.
The owner confirms that the car has never been in an accident and that there is zero rust, a tribute to careful ownership and good climate. He is only offering it for sale due to relocation out of state.
