This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe finished in black over taupe leather and powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include glass headlight covers, triple SU carburetors, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes. Having spent time in California, the car was reportedly purchased by the previous owner in the 1980s and subsequently refurbished as a father-and-son project before it was acquired by the seller in September 2019. Recent service is said to have included replacing the alternator along with refreshing the brakes as well as the ignition, and cooling systems. This Series I XKE is now offered at no reserve with partial service records, parts receipts, manufacturer’s literature, repair manuals, spare parts, uninstalled California license plates, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in black and reportedly underwent a repaint in the mid-1980s, while exterior features include split chrome bumpers, triple windshield wipers, glass headlight covers, and dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear 185/65 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial red-line tires showing 2017 date codes. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with extended rear bleeder valves, and the seller states that replacement Wilwood front brakes were recently installed along with a new master cylinder, brake hoses, front dampers, and wheel bearings. The emergency brake is in need of adjustment.
The cabin is trimmed in taupe leather and features textured aluminum trim on the dashboard. The bucket seats have adjustable headrests and wear four-point harnesses with Jaguar logos, while additional features include a fire extinguisher, Coco floormats, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The seller notes that the radio has been removed, and that the seats, dashboard, and center console appear not to be original.
A Nardi wood-rim steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under the seller’s ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The transmission speedometer gear and cable along with the tachometer drive are said to have recently been replaced.
The 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors that were reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership. Recent service is said to have included installing a spin-on oil filter and a stainless-steel exhaust system, replacing the alternator and heater control valve, upgrading the ignition system with a solid-state distributor, and refreshing the cooling system with Cool Cat components and an enlarged aluminum radiator. The seller notes an oil leak.
Cylinder head stamping R9663-9 matches the number indicated on the chassis plate and the stamping shown on the cylinder block.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
A collection of spares is included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, repair manuals, partial service records, parts receipts, and uninstalled California license plates.
