This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe is said to have been refurbished under previous ownership in the 1980s and is finished in maroon over black leather upholstery. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes triple SU carburetors, electronic ignition, a spin-on oil filter housing, 15” knockoff wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, covered headlights, chrome bumpers, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2022, and subsequent service involved replacing the battery and tires. This XKE coupe is now offered by the selling dealer in Missouri with an owner’s manual, tools, spare parts, and a clean Michigan title.
Said to have been finished from the factory in white, the car was reportedly stripped and received sheetmetal repairs before being repainted in its current shade of maroon in the 1980s. The selling dealer states that additional work involved refinishing the brightwork and replacing the majority of the glass. Exterior details include a louvered clamshell hood, covered halogen headlights, LED taillight bulbs, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and wrap-around chrome bumpers with overriders and front and rear grille guards.
Chrome-finished 15″ knockoff wire wheels were reportedly refinished by Dayton Wire Wheels under prior ownership and are retained via two-eared spinners. The 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are said to have been mounted in July 2022, and a full-size spare is stored in the cargo area along with a mallet and a wood spinner removal tool. Stopping power is provided by servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Bright metal trim adorns the dash and center console, and the radio is inoperative.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles, and true mileage is unknown. The oil pressure gauge has been replaced with a mechanical unit, and the removed electronic meter is included in the sale.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and is said to have been overhauled during the 1980s refurbishment with 0.030″-over pistons. An electronic ignition conversion kit has been fitted along with a spin-on oil filter housing. The selling dealer states that the generator has been rebuilt and the exhaust manifolds have been coated in a satin black heat protective material. The battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which is said to have been overhauled with replacement synchros and bearings in the 1980s.
An owner’s manual will accompany the car along with replacement sun visors, removed ignition components, and spare parts.
