Ebay item 8/13/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Series-I-FHC-MAGNIFICENT-RESTORED-1963-JAG ...
Current bid $20,100 reserve not met, 8 bids, 6 days left in auction. 70k miles.

Sellers description:
1963 Jaguar E-type Series I 3.8L fixed head coupe.

The car was the subject of a documented professional subframe off, nut and bolt restoration in the early 1990s.
It has held up well and in fact, the car scored a 99.66 at a JCNA concours last June.
Previous owner had the car for two years and put less than 50 miles on it in that time.

Body: The car was painted in the correct shade of Jaguar Opalescent Silver Blue approximately fifteen years ago.
The car was prepped well and the sides are straight. The paint still has an excellent gloss with no major scratches or dings. On very close examination, expect a minor fisheye or two, a dust speck and some minor material shrinkage or tiny cracks commensurate with the age of the paint.

The chrome is holding up well with just minor scratches here and there and no pitting.

Bonnet fit is good as is the drivers door fit. The passenger door protrudes just slightly at the bottom because it has a fresh seal.

The engine compartment presentation has held up quite well. It has the correct gold cylinder head, porcelain exhaust manifold and Champion spark plug wires and Lucas Screen Jet washer. Every thing is very tidy.

It would likely be among the best cars at a local British car show.

The floors have the correct body-color pebble finish.

The rear suspension, differential, cradle and hub carriers still look very fresh as do the stainless exhaust chrome resonators.

There is no apparent corrosion on the sheet metal or any of the major fasteners or assemblies and nothing to be in the least bit ashamed of underneath the car.

Interior: The interior has held up very well. The wool carpet and moquette headliner look quite good, rear deck vinyl, the instruments and dash look fresh as does the wood wheel. The leather seats have only the slightest hint of patina and they are still supple and comfortable.

Mechanicals: The file contains receipts for an engine rebuild when the car was restored in the early 1990s.

It has seen limited use since then and does not appear to need any attention nor will it likely in the near future.

The engine and head # is R8736-9. Oil pressure is pegged at over 60 lbs. at cold idle and over 40 lbs. at warm idle. Warm under load it runs at near the peg at 60 lbs. It sounds throaty and makes no noises that it shouldnt.
The generator was just rebuilt.

The Moss gearbox # EB7918JS is frankly difficult and an acquired taste. From contemporary road tests, the car requires slow and deliberate shifts to keep from beating the synchromesh. It has not gotten better with age, but seems to shift the way it did in 1963.

Overall, however, it is a very nice driver, with excellent steering and suspension and a very tight rattle-free structure.

Under normal conditions the temperature needle shows usual behavior.

The car is presently riding on Dunlop RS.5 6.40 X 15 bias ply tires that are absolutely correct. They appear to be in very good shape.

The chrome wire wheels also appear in very good shape with tight spokes and virtually unmarked knockoffs. The spokes and rim chrome is excellent.

In summary, this is a lovely Series I E-type coupe that has had at least $70,000 in todays dollars worth of work done many years but few miles ago.

Freshly restored concours E-type Serie I coupes are pushing $90,000. This is a car that you dont need to be paranoid about driving but it still retains much of the eyeball of a concours car.

Vehicle Location: Concorso Italiano
Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course
Seaside, CA 93955

Estimate: $60,000 - $65,000

Opening bid $35,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 4 days left in auction. Buy it now price $55,000. Car now in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Sellers description:
1963 Jaguar XKE (E-Type) Coupe. Finished in a popular Opalescent Blue, with a Navy interior. Odo shows 71443 miles.

Vin # 8787465
Body # 74505
Engine # R8736-9
Gear Box # EB 7918 JS

Recently judged by JCNA at 99.66 points (the judging sheets are in the car), its condition belies the fact that the restoration was done nearly ten years ago and emphasizes the quality of the workmanship and materials used. The bodywork is great, all the panels fit smoothly and evenly, the chrome is gorgeous, the paint is sharp. It has chrome wire wheels mounted with blackwall tires which complement the lean, purposeful lines of the XKE Coupe perfectly and emphasize the way the chassis sits correctly on its wheels. The interior is Dark Blue, as are the carpets, and a period AM radio is fitted. This is a really nice, solid, well done, honest, straight example of the car Road & Track's Henry N. Manney called, "the world's greatest crumpet-catcher," done right without being overdone.

The car on offer, chassis number 887465, is a 3.8L series 1 car. With a full restoration done at great expense, this is a matching numbers Coupe in superb condition. Finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a Dark Blue interior and excellent chrome this car is a superb driver. The Moss gearbox shifts as well as any of them, the engine pulls strongly from low rpm with consistent oil pressure and stable temperature even in the summer heat.

I purchased this car in Oct 2012 and its now undergoing a windows out respray as paint has many cracks . upon completion i will have interior redone as it too is very tired . whomever ownded it recently has removed the original wiring loom set up in order to add pertronix. this too well be corrected as will the chrome which is now tired . if this car was so good just 2 short years ago i really question how one concluded this. Anyway no big deal by may of 2013 it will be perfect again !

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
