This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a LHD Series 1 coupe that has been converted to a race car and campaigned with the SVRA and VSCDA. Track preparation was performed under the previous owner, who acquired the complete car in 1987. It is finished in metallic silver and blue, and power is supplied by a Bill Terry 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a Quaife limited-slip differential. Other modifications include XKE Series III front brakes, an improved cooling system, Dunlop-style wheels, Koni shocks, and much more as outlined below. It also comes equipped with a bolt-in roll bar, Kirkey seat, fuel cell, and a fire suppression system. The seller has participated in one demonstration event since purchasing the car from the previous owner's estate in 2012. This XKE racer is now being offered on a bill of sale in Victoria British Columbia with logbooks and Canadian import documentation.
Conversion to a track car reportedly included stripping the body tub to bare metal. A lightweight single-piece fiberglass bonnet has been installed, though the factory doors and hatch have reportedly been retained. The side frames have Further weight reduction includes the use of plexiglass for the quarter windows and back hatch. Headlights and tail lamps remain installed.
A set of Cooper race compound tires have been installed on the Dunlop-style alloy wheels in recent years. The front suspension has been adapted to Series III uprights in order to accommodate the vented disc brake system utilized on the V12 cars. Koni shocks and track-rated torsion bars have also been added, along with an adjustable TJP reaction plate to help adjust front ride height.
The interior has been largely removed, with the exception of the factory dash, door panels, and center console. A bolt-in roll bar comes fitted along with a single Kirkey racing seat for the driver. The Accusump accumulator for the engine can be seen mounted in the passenger side footwell. 47k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer.
A custom fresh-air system for the inboard-mounted rear disc brakes has been developed with intakes added to the quarter windows. The fire-suppression system is currently configured with three nozzles, and an aluminum fuel tank resides underneath the rear compartment floor.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six was built by Jaguar performance specialist Bill Terry and utilizes a modified block with enlarged cooling passages, as well as a baffled oil sump, and a Rob Beer crank scraper. Internal modifications also include a nitrided crankshaft, Carrillo connecting rods, Ross pistons, Isky cams, ARP hardware and more. Induction is through triple SU carburetors, and a pair of Jet-Hot coated split long-tube headers feed a dual exhaust system. Work performed under the seller has included rebuilding the radiator and installing a M&C Wilkinson stainless exhaust with a repackable silencer.
An aluminum flywheel is utilized in conjunction with a Quartermaster triple-disc race clutch. Bill Terry also supplied the 5-speed Tremec gearbox, which is configured with custom ratios and dog-ring engagement. The bellhousing has been fitted with a scatter shield, and the rear differential carrier has been reinforced. Aeroquip lines and fittings have reportedly been used throughout.
Logbooks from the SVRA and VSCDA accompany the sale. The car was imported from the US to Canada by the seller six years ago, though it has not been registered for street use in Canada and still carries a US title from Illinois.
