Car offered at:

www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1962-jaguar-e-type-series-1-38-fhc-gLWyJ8

Auction description:

1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1

Colour Red

Odometer 8,645 Miles

Engine size 3781

Town Oldemarkt

Location International

Country Netherlands

Matching numbers engine & gearbox

European LHD example

FIVA ID and Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate

One owner for 29 years

Very good condition throughout

This European example was delivered new on September 3, 1962 to Lagerwij's, in The Hague. A modest 7,669 units of the Series I 3.8 Fixed head coupé were produced and only a small part of these were delivered new to the Netherlands.

More recently the car has been in single private ownership for 29 years and it is clear that the car has been very well looked after in this time! Subject to an older restoration, its history file includes a FIA identity card, several invoices, a period photo of the car and of course its Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming that the car retains not only its matching numbers engine, but also body and gearbox.

The Interior

As one would expect for a car that has been subject to an older restoration, the interior is showing some signs usage, however in a good way. The light patina on the interior looks perfect. Exactly how a car of this age should look, and one would quite happily jump in and drive away!

All of the interior furnishings are present and correct and the cream leather interior really looks good with the noteworthy aluminium dash. Its boot opens to access a big and practical boot that again is in very good overall condition.

What a fun, elegant and even functional sports car!

The Exterior

Finished in red paintwork which is in good overall condition and the body is straight and honest. The chrome is all very nice with no pitting including the wheels. The tyres however will need replacing prior to any long road-trip!

The underside of the car is very straight and very solid, clearly the car has not been used in the rain much, if at all.

The Mechanics

As can be seen in the photos, the engine bay is very clean showing that this E-type has been cared for quite considerably. The car runs and drives as it should, the car breaks in a straight line and the engine sounds great with no untoward smoke coming out of the exhaust.

The most important question that is always asked when it comes to E-types, especially these early and collectable series 1’s, is whether the car retains its original engine and gearbox. To this, we are very happy to confirm that not only does this lovely E-type retain both of these, however they function just as they should and this car is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

My mistake on the previous comment. The car is not listed for sale @ 95.000 euros, but is offered for sale at 99.500 euros

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.
