Hi, I own 885505 made on the same day as yours 18/01/1962. My body number should be V1688 which everything is on the car except the body stamp. I have your body stamp V1697.
I wonder if you have mine. Mine is Imperial maroon and they were only 21 made in that colour so it has only ever had that body from new as it is original paint in many places. I was told Jaguar used to write the body number on a boot lid and walk it downstairs to the 10 cars or so they were building that day and see which it fit best. Turns out my 1688 boot fit 1697 body better on the day. Would love to hear from you. Cheers, Matt

I purchased 885511 in Monterey, CA and imported to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the late '70s. I was the second owner.

I subsequently sold to a friend, just prior to moving back to the USA.

To the current owner, i have information and pictures relating to this XKE that I would be happy to share with you.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
