Being a musician and professor of Harpsichord in Cologne in my professional life, but far from a music nerd, the greatest of my pastime activities is to work on this wonderful, very early 3.8 coupe. An "eternal" project, of course, being an amateur tinkerer, but very rewarding indeed - though things can get very frustrating at times! I guess there are more of us in similar situations here, on this fantastic site...(email)

This flat-floor / welded louvres car - from one of the very first production weeks - was bought in 1991, then in a rather sad state! As we had to give priority to renovating our home here in Cologne, the car is still not finished... but will hopefully be so within the (proverbially) "next year-or-so..... I'l keep you posted! The car is very original and the restored body now looks gorgeous in Gunmetal - it will have upbgraded brakes, cooling and electrics / ignitition.

What a site!
I just stumbled on to it by coincidence tonight and got really curious and happy to find my own car in the data base!
Of cours, I'm all eager to contribute enthusiastic news and comments to the E-Type community about my (almost eternal!) project - just as I'd be interested in exchanging experiences and hints / help from fellow enthusiasts! We all share in a fantastic hobby in keeping the golden heritage of the arguably most exciting car in the world alive!!
Let's stay that way - without snobbism, pretentions or prejudice - just in awe and deep respect of the people who made it all happen, back in the sixties!
Best greetings to the community out there -

That is going to be a beautiful car, Ketil. I'm torn between gunmetal and silver grey for my own car, it was originally grey but the darker gunmetal is very lovely.

As you can see, some pictures of the original space-frames has been added.
As time has gone by and one’s project is on halt for periods, new aspects of the quality standard comes under enhanced scrutiny - thus, the frames just had to be reviewd in all honesty - seriously...
And - voilá - not only the bonnet frame flanges had been (unsuccessfully) welded, but other flanges, especially the vulnerable joint under the battery tray, bore witness to treatment of ill-boding and non-permissible nature!
Really - life is too short to be joking around in a 150 mph car with one of its most vital structural components literally a ticking timebomb in your lap.
Consequently, I have ordered new ones - frames that - contrary to the originals from 1961 - are actually designed for a fifty-year-long lifespan - and - which are allowed to be welded, should the need ever arise!
The idea of showing the old frames, is not to scare you all out there - but you owe it to yourselves & your loved ones to keep a watchful eye open... before they collapse!
PS: You will not find these on eBay....

Dear E-Type friends -
The brand new space-frames arrived yesterday!
Made by Uryk Dmyterko E-Type Fabs, the represent the non-plus-ultra - much better than the factory standard of 1961 - thus, the reassembly of the car is now allowed a huge leap forward!
As the work progresses - and my Leica Digilux 2 is back from servicing - more detailed pictures will follow...!

Lovely to see this. Having been through the same with my car (850152) could I suggest a Coolcat fan (bolts straight on to the picture frame) To replace the early style radiator I bought from Welsh in USA at Far cheaper than Europe. For brakes I bought Zeus. And of course I have Uryk's frames. For originality she has painted wheels which I think look better and are a lot cheaper! HTH
