Hilton & Moss presents the remarkable Jaguar E-Type "Semi-Lightweight" for sale. This stunning vehicle is fully prepared for participation in Pre-'66 GT racing events, including prestigious competitions such as the Goodwood Members' Meeting, Spa 6 Hours, Le Mans Classic, GT & Sports Car Cup, Sixties Endurance, and the Jaguar Classic Challenge.
The Semi-Lightweight E-Type stands as a revered iteration of the iconic Jaguar E-Type sports car. Originally crafted for motorsport endeavours, it was intended for private participants keen on racing at esteemed events.
In pursuit of peak track performance, the Semi-Lightweight E-Type underwent substantial modifications compared to its street-legal counterpart. A pivotal alteration involved the use of lightweight aluminium construction. While maintaining its steel monocoque tub (‘Semi’), the car's bonnet, doors, lower rear wings and boot were re-engineered using aluminium, resulting in substantial weight reduction that bolstered agility and handling. The rear arches are also widened to accommodate wider, grippier rear wheels.
This 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3. 8 Series 1 Semi Lightweight 'FIA', available at Hilton & Moss, is finished in a purposeful shade of green. Constructed to exacting standards, this reliable E-Type is primed for racing, equipped with features such as an aluminium bonnet, boot, doors, FIA Roll Cage, lightweight hardtop with rear ventilation, Perspex side windows, and rear window. The car originated from a 1963 OTS and was reimported from the United States in 1991, subsequently participating in the Spa Six Hours and other European events.
Having undergone a thorough rebuild in 2015, with no expenses spared, this Jaguar E-Type has consistently excelled in racing. Beneath the hood, the car is fitted with a race-proven steel block 3. 8-litre dry sump engine showing 295 bhp at the wheels. The engine is mated to a Denish Welch-built straight-cut competition 4-speed gearbox.
The vehicle boasts an array of Semi-Lightweight upgrades, including two sets of Magnesium wheels, Denish Welch side-exit race exhaust, additional front bonnet spotlights, a rear differential cooler, bespoke brake ducting, bonnet straps and outside latches, a fire system with plumbed-in extinguisher and a battery cut-off switch. Furthermore, adjustable suspension, a foam-filled alloy fuel tank with a Le Mans-style fuel filler cap, a lightweight battery, a lightweight alternator, an oil cooler, an aluminium radiator, and an electric cooling fan have been integrated.
The car comes with a Historic Technical Passport (Period F) valid until 31/ 12/ 2027, making it ready for pre-’66 GT racing events such as the Goodwood Members' Meeting, Spa 6 Hours, Le Mans Classic, Silverstone Classics, GT & Sports Car Cup, and Sixties Endurance. Beyond its racing potential, this Jaguar is road registered and eligible for rallies such as the Tour Auto, Coupe des Alpes, or Modena Cento Ore.
Ultimately, the Semi-Lightweight E-Type persists as a symbol of automotive excellence, seamlessly merging elegant design with high-performance capabilities. Its racing legacy and timeless charm continue to captivate car enthusiasts and racing drivers across the globe.
Accompanied by a comprehensive history file, including valid FIA/ HTP papers, the current V5 registration document, and numerous invoices.
