Ebay item 3/21/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $25,100.00 (Reserve not met), 12 bids, 6 days left in auction. VIN J64881564 .

Sellers description:
Carmen red with black interior. This car is a 3 owner vehicle. The second owner purchased the car in Palm Springs California in 1967, and we purchased from him in the fall of 2003. This car is still in it's original paint, and wearing it's original interior. We have al the original books, including the original owners name and place of purchase. There is a correct tool kit in the trunk, only missing the original screwdriver(crumbled), and the correct jack and handle are there also. All numbers match, and this is a bonafide California car, with all the correct markings and extra title numbers. There is no significant rust present anywhere. The car had been garaged in 1976 for a broken stop pin on first gear, and never registered since. We returned the car to service in October of 2003 after replacing the radiator, water pump, all 3 masters, the fuel tank, rebuilding the carbs, new front headpipes and replacing all the belts and hoses. A full major tune-up and fluid service were performed. The broken stop pin has been repaired, and the gearbox modified to ensure it never happens again. Everything works including the factory radio. The car starts and runs extremely well, and is very strong, with no chassis deficiencies. We have put 2 years of show and club use, including several long trips, on the car without a problem. Though not installed we have the Amco front and rear bumper guards and the original trunk rack to go with the car and we have retained all the original parts replaced while getting it running. The car scored a 8.98 out of a possible 10 at the May 2003 Lowcountry Classic JCNA Concourse in Charleston SC.

Now for the rest. This car has the usual leaks at the front and rear crank seal. It does oil smoke, probably from the piston ring condition from having set without running for 27 years. The top and weatherstripping will need replacing. The aftermarket ANSA exhaust installed in the 1970's will need to be replaced, it is intact but has several holes. There is a broken tooth on first gear from the stop-pin failure, all the metal has been removed from the gearbox, and it works fine- just noisier than usual. A replacement cluster gear is included with the car. The chassis shows the honest wear of a 60kmile Jaguar with some cracking visible on the suspension rubbers. The paint is getting tired and has rubbed through in several places. The left front wing was refinished in the 1970's to repair a garage scratch (bicycle handlebar), but no fillers were used. The interior is as expected with the dash top slightly shrunk (not split) and the seats cracked but serviceable. The shift boot has disintegrated and needs replacing.

Transmission has still not been repaired (April, 2006). Found an original hardtop that matches the scruffy appearance of the car; this is a good thing since the soft top will not go up!

August, 2007. Transmission was rebuilt including replacement cluster gear. Engine was completely rebuilt. Bores were taken .020 over; crank was perfect! Best part was that nothing had been apart before. New clutch and TO bearing. Car runs like new. Nothing like having all the gears again!

Over the 2009/2010 winter, I had a local shop install a new, correct, fabric hood. Before doing this, I took the top bows off and re-painted them the correct gray. I had the paint made up by color matching the gray paint on the header pan that had been covered and was in good condition. Unfortunately, the interior material on the header had been removed and replaced with black trim. The original bodril is not available so I acquired something as close as possible. The wood tack strip at the rear was replaced as were a few of the old screws. The hood looks excellent; almost too good! The car is so original I almost hated to install a new hood, but since the one on the car was a replacement anyhow (and vinyl, and it didn't go up), I didn't feel to bad about adding it.

Car is pictured in an article about the E-type in Autoweek 5/18 email, probably in the 6/18 edition, its not in the 5/18 edition.
