1964 JAGUAR Type E 3,8 L

Auction description:

Lot 119

140,000 - 170,000 €

1964 JAGUAR TYPE E CABRIOLET 3,8L

Serial number 881216

Delivered new by the concession Delecroix in Paris

Car restored and made reliable

French gray card

This superb Jaguar Type-E Cabriolet 3.8 was built on March 4, 1964. Numbered 881216, it was delivered new in Paris by the dealer Delecroix on March 23, 1964 to the Press Aerospace of Paris. Painted in Opalescent Silver Blue and equipped with a dark blue cockpit, it then belonged to an Orléanaise, she passed under the hammer of Master Osenat in 2010 and was thus acquired by its current owner. The latter, a perfectionist, restored the car in its entirety. The engine was remade at Sigma Engineering, the Moss box on its side was replaced for a five-speed gearbox. The "all Eiffel" was

replaced for a new one purchased from E-Type Fabs. The cabin was remodeled at Suffolk & Turley in Coventry while braking was done with parts from Coopercraft. Adjustable dampers and remote bleeders have also been installed for easy maintenance. Finally, polished stainless steel wheels were ordered from MWS International Ltd. for £ 2,354. In total, nearly 50,000 euros were invested in the restoration of this car. Now finished five years ago, this Jaguar presents an excellent aesthetic and mechanical state. It has been made more reliable so that it can travel the roads of the whole world in historical rallies. Indeed, the owner took her to drive to South Africa, Tunisia and he only returns from the Tour de Corse.

This model is one of the very few Jaguar Type-E delivered new in France, especially, its owner has not skimped on the means to make his 3.8L reliable and make his driving enjoyable, especially thanks to the five-speed gearbox. It is perhaps here a Madeleine Proust Type-E, combining all the finesse of the Series 1 3.8L and the reliability and comfort of 4.2l posterior.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
