1964 Jaguar Series I E-Type Roadster
LOT 156
CHASSIS#: 880859
ESTIMATE:
$ 70,000 -- $ 90,000
The Series I Roadster presented here is a 55,000 mile example with no previous corrosion or collision damage prior to being subjected to a body-off restoration and complete mechanical rebuild to the highest standard nine years ago, The restoration was
commissioned by the previous owner who had clocked 35,000 fair weather miles on the car subsequent to acquiring it in 1974.
The finest materials as well as all new Jaguar factory parts were utilized during the course of the no-holdsbarred, no-expense-spared restoration of the body and all mechanical components. The work was performed by a talented team of highly regarded Jaguar
specialists, also well known to the current owner who has reviewed the records of the restoration with them. According to the previous owner and the people who worked on the car, the restorers embarked on a comprehensive inspection and rebuilding program directed at every mechanical component and system. At the same time they incorporated the desirable all-synchromesh transmission and 4.2 upgrades along with
modifications designed to enhance the efficiency of the notoriously weak cooling and electrical systems that commonly haunt XK and E-series cars - often from new!
Restoration of the body commenced with complete disassembly down to the smallest sheet metal component and last fastener prior to being stripped to the bare metal. Subsequently, minor dings and surface imperfections were dealt with before the application of epoxy primers, which were followed by refinishing with classic Jaguar Carmen red urethane paint. Ultimately, after the brightwork had returned from the plater, the car body was then carefully reassembled before the paint was color sanded and polished to perfection. Then, glass, chrome trim and body accessories were refitted and prior to re-trimming the cockpit with Connolly black hides and Wilton carpeting. A new black convertible top was also installed and lastly five new chrome wire wheels (including the spare) shod with Michelin radials were
mounted on the car.
Unfortunately, due to matters of health, the previous owner never had the opportunity to experience the pleasure of putting the car back on the road after its restoration was completed, placing it in climate-controlled storage, where it remained until its acquisition
by the current owner in early 2004. At that time, the car underwent a complete mechanical review and major service before being placed on display along with the owner’s other classic Jaguars in a climate controlled private showroom. Since then, the car has seen only light dry weather road use, accumulating approximately 300 break-in miles. The owner states that this Jaguar is an especially fine road car, being a brisk performer and handling very well in the best E-Type tradition. Of course the car comes complete with its proper tool kit and appropriate manuals.

Ebay item 4/9/09 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Series-1-E-Type-Roadster-Series-1-Restored ...
Current bid $15,100 reserve not met, 12 bids 6 days left in auction. Car now located in Santa Barbara, California.
Sellers description:
Fully restored Series 1 E type Roadster with non matching number 4.2 liter engine and 4 synchro gearbox. This car has been well maintained by Winning Makes in Santa Barbara. It drives very well and is ready to be used with no excuses. The car has been fully restored but is not, in our opinion, quite to the standard of a show car, but not far from it.
There are a few scratches in the paint work and the panel fit of the trunk and bonnet are not perfect. The restoration work is mostly correct with examples, such as the hardware in the engine bay and front suspension A arms, which have been cad plated to produce the origianl factory finish . Mechanically it does everything that it is supposed to do correctly. It is a car that can be enjoyed now without worrying too much about putting the first chip in the paint.
Priced to sell in the current market at less than 50% of a restoration to this standard.
The car appears to be a 1964 not a 1965 as listed. It would probably have had a 3.8 engine and non synchro gearbox from the factory, but has been upgraded to a 4.2 engine with a four synchro gearbox.
