Lot 117
1963 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES 1 3.8 ROADSTER
US$ 125,000 - 150,000
£81,000 - 97,000
Auction 22530:
The Amelia Island Auction
12 Mar 2015 12:00 EDT
Chassis no. 880117
Engine no. RA 2567-9
This immaculate Series 1 E-Type comes to the market following an extensive refurbishment. It almost certainly looks as good, if not better than it did new, when as verified by Jaguar Daimler Heritage it was delivered to a Mr. A.A. Smith, Jr. on October 11, 1963. It had been delivered through the Jaguar Cars New York distributor.
During the aforementioned exercise the car was dismantled and taken back to bare metal and then refinished in its original scheme of cream paintwork. Again as factory ordered, its interior was returned to black, being re-trimmed in Connolly leather and a matched black top was fitted using contemporary reproduction materials. Its engine is reported to have been rebuilt, a new clutch fitted as well as new stainless steel exhausts, the brakes renewed and its wire wheels shod with new tires. The completed effect is extremely good and the car presents very well. On a brief test drive during its photography it proved to be nicely setup and to have been dialed in after its restoration. It should prove to be a very usable example.
Wearing a California Black Plate, which alludes to a later part of its life when it is understood to have spent some time on the West Coast, the car is offered with its Heritage Certificate, a period manual and wallet, jack and hammer.

It has its original matching-numbers engine as verified by a Jaguar Daimler Certificate. During the restoration, it was brought down to bare metal and resprayed in the original cream color. As per the original specifications, the interior was also fully restored and retrimmed in black Connolly leather with matching black convertible top in the correct material. A period-correct radio is fitted into the center console. This being a drop-floor example, the cockpit is comfortable and inviting, with the correct fixed-back seats as fitted to 3.8-liter models. The car has been comprehensively restored and the results are impressive. Included in the sale are the original jack and hammer, period manual with wallet, as well as the aforementioned Heritage Certificate. This is a very fine, nicely restored early E-Type 3.8-liter.
