This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was restored in the late 1990s and appeared thereafter in both JCNA concours events and as part of Jaguar's Roadster Retrospective at the 2001 Los Angeles Auto Show. The car received a color change from Sand over tan leather to its present white over grey, and its matching-numbers 3.8L inline-six is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. All three SU carburetors were recently rebuilt and a fluid change was performed by the selling dealer. The car is offered with a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, concours score sheets from the early 2000s, restoration and LA Auto Show photos, and a clean Washington title.

Sheet metal received a color change from its original Sand to the pearl white seen here. Concours score sheets provided from shortly after the car's completion show consistent results between 98 and 100 points and describe the quality of the finish, panel gaps, and top fitment.

The seller has provided photos showing the condition of the brightwork and lighting, which includes early features such as the enclosed headlamps featured on US-market cars through 1967 as well as turn signals mounted above the front bumpers. Factory-style knock-off wire wheels are fitted with reproduction Michelin XVS tires.

A black boot is fitted over the convertible top when lowered. Several blemishes are shown up close in the gallery below.

Low-back bucket seats are trimmed in grey leather, with matching materials on the door panels and center console, grey carpets and mats, and a set of period lap belts. The black vinyl dash houses a wood-rimmed steering wheel and early toggle switches. Stock Smiths instrumentation includes an odometer showing just over 7,600 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The original 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with polished cam covers, three SU carburetors that were recently rebuilt by the selling dealer, and a twin-pipe exhaust system. Shifting is though a 4-speed manual transmission with a non-synchro first gear. An electric radiator fan is controlled with a switch hidden under the dash. A receipt is provided which shows the parts used for the engine rebuild.

Engine number RA3160-9 is original according the the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. Other provided documentation includes past registrations, photos of the restoration work, and concours score sheets.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
