Car to be at auction by above seller 6/15
motostalgia.com/car-detail/

Auction description:
Estimate: $70,000 - $95,000
Chassis Number: 879926
Unrestored XKE Original w/ Matching Numbers

Our consignor tells us this car was purchased from the original owner in 1965 by Richard Bedwell who wanted to compete in SCCA events, but his employer, Ford Motor Company, cancelled those plans. With just a little over 38,000 miles from new, this red E-type was soon nearly forgotten, used only on rare occasions. After Mr. Bedwell's passing the car was purchased by well-known Jaguar expert who kept the car in its original condition. Over the ensuing the years the only major cosmetic change being the replacement of the soft top, done in original black canvas. With one older exterior respray today this E-type still retains its original seating surfaces as well as all mechanics, its Blaupunkt AM-FM radio and a complete set of tools in their original cloth roll, plus a file folder full of receipts and documents from as far back as 1965. As the interest in these Jaguar sports cars continues to escalate, finding an original of this caliber may not be repeated for quite some time to come.

Lot 180

2023 Amelia Island Auctions

1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Roadster

From The Estate of Erickson Shirley

Estimate $150,000 - $180,000| Without Reserve

Chassis 879926

Engine RA2888-9

Unrestored Example Retaining Matching-Numbers Engine per JDHT Certificate

Beautifully Patinated Older Paint Finish and Preserved Interior

Recent Mechanical Attention by Dennison International Motorsports

Accompanied by JDHT Certificate, Correspondence, and Prior Owner Records

A Charming Example of Jaguar’s Seminal E-Type

According to an accompanying JDHT certificate, this early production 3.8-litre example was manufactured on August 12, 1963, and dispatched 17 days later for shipment to the US. Factory-finished in Carmen Red with Red upholstery and a Black convertible top, it maintains this unique combination today. According to correspondence on file, the Jaguar was purchased from the original owner in 1965 by Richard Bedwell, a Ford Motor Company employee, who planned to enter the car in SCCA events. However, company policy frowned on his plans and the vehicle saw little use throughout his ownership. In 1988, Mr. Bedwell sold the E-Type to a Jaguar expert who maintained the car’s high originality. Subsequently, this wonderfully original E-Type passed through a few owners to a highly discerning owner-collector Erick Shirley. Selective restorative work over the years included the replacement of the convertible top and an exterior repaint, with the car retaining the majority of its original Red leather upholstery, matching carpets, and matching-numbers engine. Showing approximately 84,500 miles, this E-Type benefits from selective mechanical sorting by noted West Coast racing specialist Dennison International Motorsports. Other highlights include a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, a roadside jack, and a set of tools in its original cloth roll, plus a wealth of documents, receipts dating to 1965, and a JDHT certificate.

Lot #105451

This 1964 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that is finished in red over red leather upholstery and powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, chrome bumpers, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. The car was recently acquired by the owner, and the battery and starter were reportedly replaced in anticipation of the sale. This XKE is now offered on dealer consignment in Arizona with a tool kit and a Washington title.

The car is finished in red and features include a black soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, headlight covers, a louvered hood, wind wings, and central dual exhaust outlets. There is evidence of paint work on the right door.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Pirelli Cinturato tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard rear rotors.

The interior is trimmed in red and the leather upholstery on the seats and center console is worn. Equipment includes a heater, lap belts, hand-crank side windows, rubber mats, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, centrally-mounted auxiliary gauges, and a tachometer with an inset analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 39k miles, and the total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors. The battery and starter were reportedly replaced in anticipation of the sale. Oil leaks are noted on the valve covers and lower oil pan.

Engine number RA2888-9 is stamped on the cylinder head and matches the number indicated on the chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

A tool kit and a knockoff hammer are included in the sale.

The Washington title carries a Classic brand.
