Stella is the name of this amazing 1964 Jaguar XKE Series 1. She is a total nuts-n-bolts rotisserie restoration performed by the legendary Tom Curren — owner of Coventry Classics in Orlando, Florida. This is Tom's last masterpiece before meeting his creator November 3rd, 2015 (4 years to the day of launching the marketing of Stella worldwide).  A bit about Tom and then I'll begin telling the details of Stella.

Tom Curren was a well known, highly respected and much loved Jaguar enthusiast. Born in Shelby, Ohio and lived in Orlando, Florida where his career as a Chief Judge and Technical Advisor for the Jaguar Club of Florida took precedence. He was the founder of the Jaguar Club of Florida and co-founder of the All British Car Club in Wmter Park, Florida. Tom restored and repaired hundreds of Jaguars at his shop, Coventry Classics, for owners all over the United States. There was no one more dedicated or knowledgeable about every vintage Jaguar's parts, down to the bolts on every year he restored. There cannot be enough said about Tom Curren.

Stella began 'her' journey back to life when Tom got word that there was an E-Type in Longwood, Florida that was in the midst of being restored, but abandoned due to the divorce of the owner. Tom recognized the special soul of Stella and knew there was no stopping him from knowing in his heart that he could bring her back to life. The previous owner was instrumental in gathering all the parts of Stella. The restoration process then began.

Stella's current owner is Tom's female companion during the restoration and during Tom's struggle with cancer. She recalls spending many days at the shop watching Stella come back to life. "It was truly mind blowing to me to see every nut, bolt, wire, and body part fall meticulously into place. Every nut and bolt polished in a machine to make them new again. Tom worked tirelessly for months, day in and day out to put the car all back together with perfection. When he started, no one, including myself, knew that he was sick and dying of Cancer. When he finished he brought the car home and parked it in the garage where it stayed without being driven for a few months while he struggled to stay alive. He lost his battle with Cancer in a few short months and passed away". Stella was left to Tom's female companion who has enjoyed taking the car in an enclosed trailer to Jaguar Concours D'Elegance's in Florida where Stella has been greatly admired and appreciated by many. Naturally, the seller is personally very emotionally attached to Stella, but has come to the realization that the car needs a new owner who will continue to cherish her with everlasting love.

Now more about Stella; she has gone through a total rotisserie nuts and bolts restoration. Time was taken with precision in each step. Yes, perfection is costly but in the long run it's worth it. In the restoration process the vehicle was disassembled and stripped to bare metal then placed on a rotisserie. The metal was then finished, leaded, and all body parts were fitted to the car. The body was prepared for primer, sealer, paint, base and clear coat, color sanded and buffed to its perfect finish.  Stella got a new windshield and new door glasses. All mechanical systems and components were rebuilt, serviced, restored or replaced as needed including the engine and transmission being rebuilt back to factory specs.  The original engine was already not with the car at the time Tom Curren got the car. An exact period specific engine was found and rebuilt. Hence, Stella is not a matching numbers car, but it didn't bother Tom. A later-year synro transmission was installed. The engine fires right up with the first light turn of the key. It has a very good solid sound to it. Superb throttle response. The car drives great. You can really tell this car was completely restored and not just semi restored because the suspension and steering feels like it must have felt when the car was brand new — maybe even better now. No rattles, so strange noises. It's a joy to drive.  The interior is flawless. No wear or tear anywhere. The car has been driven only 446 miles since the restoration was completed. The new odometer was set at 5,000 when the car was restored. Tom did not want to set it to zero, but no one knows why he chose the number 5,000 as the equivalent to zero. Of course the brakes are perfect — no pull to either side as you decelerate.  The steering has no slop or play in it at all like so many old Jags. What a difference it is to drive Stella versus other XKE's that sometimes float around the road with their loose steering. There is absolutely no corrosion and especially no rust (not even a dusting) anywhere. The paint is flawless. No scratches or dents anywhere. All of the chrome is perfect — no corners were cut to put any old pieces back on to save money. All of the chrome everywhere on the car is like brand new. I'm not kidding of exaggerating. The engine compartment is probably the most impressive part. It's as though someone built a life-size model from a kit...it's like new. Again, I'm not exaggerating. There's a difference between an engine compartment that's been super detailed and one that every piece is clean or new put back together like a modeler would. For a life-long car freak like me it doesn't get better than this.

Summary: If you are looking for an over-the-top fully restored XKE that is a show car and drives perfect then you should take a closer look at Stella.

This car was made the first week of June 1963 and likely dispatched prior to the end of June 1963 so it is a 1963 model not a 1964 model. If the owner got a Heritage Certificate that would confirm this fact.
