I purchased this car at August 2002 RM Monterey Auction. Car is very nice restored shape with close attention to originality. I am still in process of getting Heritage certificate, but believe colors to be original

Beautiful car, Mike. I hope one day to actually see an opalescent maroon car in person!

This car was featured in the May 1997 issue of Road & Track. The car was used as an example of the original Series 1 3.8 engine OTS in an article by Peter Egan titled "Jaguar 3.8 E-type The shape that launched a thousand dreams" as part of Road & Track's 50th Anniversary Salon. The coupe featured in the same article was the Opalescent Bronze coupe from the 1961 New York Auto Show.

Mike-
Car is gorgeous. Back in 1962, I remember having seen a new 1962 OTS in a very dark burgandy color (I think even darker than yours) which almost had a blue or purple opalescence. Would you know if this color was opalescent maroon, claret, morocco red, or some other color? I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks much.

Can you provide a paint code & supplier for Opalescent Maroon? I'm having trouble trying to find the original code. Thanks,

I have a 67 FHC in Opalescent Maroon, badly in need of repainting. I echo Keith's question: what is the paint code for this beauty, and what manufacturer for the paint?

car for sale on eBay May 24 2011 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
This was an original California car that was never wrecked or rusted. Restoration was done by the previous owner in the mid-1990s. All correct fasteners and fittings were utilized. All receipts and some pictures available
Current owner have car since 2002
Car did place second in its class at the 2008 Carmel Concours on the Avenue
Car was featured in the May 1997 issue 50th Anniversary of Road and Track and was described by automotive journalist Peter Egan as follows, "They ended up with one of those crisp, perfect cars where everything works harmoniously." He's not talking about the E-type in general. He's talking about this car specifically!

This car does look great, but it is meant to be driven. This is a well sorted E-Type that I wouldn't hesitate to take on 1,000 mile trip. I'm not much into shows, but the car did place second in its class at the 2008 Carmel Concours on the Avenue. Things you will notice in the pictures are the cracked enamel on the exhaust manifold. This is easily repaired, but if you are going to drive it doesn't make much sense. You will also notice scratch marks on the aluminum trim strip where the gear shift sits. This is an original piece and the cross hatch design is correct for the model number. No reproduction parts are currently manufactured with the hatch pattern.
Correct original jack and reproduction manual are also included.
Paint Condition - Excellent
Chrome Condition - Excellent
Mechanical Condition - Excellent
Interior Condition - Very Good, but shows some signs of use
This is a numbers matching car that has a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. The restoration of the car was done using as many of the original pieces as possible and with strict attention to authenticity.
To my knowledge the only non-correct items are as follows:
- Missing retaining clips around back of top trim meant to hold down convertible boot
- Does not have the Lucas PL headlights
- Extra aftermarket fan fitted to aid cooling; This is in addition to factory fan, and it is completely removeable for shows
Unrestored hardtop with elusive chrome trim pieces is also available for sale.
There is too much to talk about this car to put down in a short advertisement. You will not be disappointed in this car.

This car does look great, but it is meant to be driven. And drive it does. There is nothing quite like looking down that long bonnett with the sun behind you shining on the wood steering wheel. That fantastic exhaust sound, crisp acceleration. Down shifting (you can double clutch can't you?) into a turn.

Minor cosmetic issues:
- Minor scratches on bottom front bumper overriders. I tried to take pictures of these, but it is hard to capture since the chrome is so shiny!
- Cracking of paint on exhaust manifold
- Scratches on aluminum trim by emergency brake
- Upper chrome trim on inside of driver's side door needs to be reattached
- Spare tire needs to be resealed to wire wheel

Numbers Matching California Black Plate Car, Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate Accompanies the Purchase, Highly Collectible Series I Car with Covered Headlights
ADDENDUM: This car currently has California Historical White Plates.
This beautiful, very original matching numbers Northern California XKE Roadster was restored by Jaguar Professionals, and extensive photos and receipts that document the restoration will accompany the purchase of the car. It has been meticulously maintained and well cared for. During the thorough restoration, the car was completely disassembled, metal worked, fitted, primered, sealed, base coat and clear coat painted, and then color sanded and buffed to perfection. An auxiliary fan was installed to improve the driving performance in warm weather. The engine, transmission, suspension and all systems were restored as needed, and the bright work, upholstery, rubber seals and new convertible top were installed. The car has been fully serviced and detailed inside and out, and the results are impressive. This lovely E-Type shows today in the original Opalescent Maroon paint scheme with a fine Sand leather interior. It features its original engine and four-speed manual gearbox, the correct wire wheels, and is in solid mechanical condition. It also features a period correct BMCD AM push button radio.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate verifying the authenticity of the car will accompany the purchase of this fine Jaguar. Being a Series I car with the desirable covered headlights makes this a highly collectible E-Type for any enthusiast, and as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the XKE this year, perhaps it is your year to buy a fine example of the legendary British icon.

Lot #75284
This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that underwent a refurbishment during the early 1990s and was subsequently featured in the May 1997 issue of Road & Track magazine. The car is finished in Opalescent Maroon with a tan canvas top over Biscuit leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.8-liter straight-six mated to a replacement four-speed manual transmission. It was acquired by the current owner in 2013 and work has since included reupholstering the seats, a suspension overhaul, rebuilding the steering rack and carburetors, and replacing the clutch. Additional equipment includes Koni shocks, PerTronix ignition, a CoolCat electric cooling fan, LED headlights, an SNG Barratt exhaust system, a tan boot cover, a Lempert steering wheel, and an Auto Sound digital stereo. This XKE roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment photos, service records dating back to 1990, removed components, a tool roll, an operator’s manual, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a copy of the Road & Track magazine in which the car is featured, and a clean New Jersey title.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Maroon, the car was repainted following the completion of bodywork in the early 1990s. A replacement tan canvas top was installed in 2019, and additional equipment includes a matching boot cover, clear Lexan splash guards, stamped hood louvers, a driver-side mirror, split chrome bumpers, LED headlights with covers, and dual polished exhaust outlets.
Dayton 15” chrome wire wheels wear two-eared spinners and are mounted with 215/65 Firestone redline tires. The front suspension was overhauled in 2017 and the steering rack was rebuilt by Donovan Motorcar Service in Lenox, Massachusetts. The car rides on Koni shocks at all four corners. A brake fluid flush was reportedly performed in April 2022. A spare set of wheels is included in the sale.
Originally finished in Maroon, the cabin was re-trimmed in Biscuit leather during the refurbishment and the seats were again re-covered in 2015. Amenities include Coco floor mats, a wood shift knob, patterned aluminum trim on the center stack and console, lap belts, and an Auto Sound digital radio with an auxiliary input located in the glove compartment. The driver’s seat mounts were lowered in 2017 and a switch below the dash controls the CoolCat electric cooling fan. The removed factory radio is included in the sale.
A three-spoke wood-rimmed Lempert steering wheel fronts LED-lit instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock while a quartet of auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles, though total mileage is unknown. The removed factory steering wheel is included in the sale.
The 3.8-liter straight-six was rebuilt during the refurbishment in the 1990s and was refreshed in early 2017, including rebuilding all three carburetors, flushing the fuel tank, and replacing engine gaskets, the starter cable, and ignition wire ends. PerTronix electronic ignition, a gear reduction starter, an alternator kit, steel-braided fuel lines, a spin-on oil filter, and Jet-Hot coated exhaust manifolds have been added, and a negative-ground conversion has been performed. An oil change was performed and the starter repaired in April 2022.
Cylinder head stamping RA2136-9.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed synchromesh manual transmission that was reportedly installed in 2013 and fitted with a 9.5” diaphragm-style clutch. An SNG Barratt exhaust system has also been added and the side frame rails were replaced in 2017. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery. The removed transmission is included in the sale.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and powertrain numbers as well as a manufacture date of May 17, 1963. A handful of photos are included, along with records dating from 1990 including records from Lippincott’s Garage of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania.
