This 1963 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was acquired by the current owner in 1995 and was refurbished between 2020 and 2026. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue over navy blue leather upholstery and features a navy blue convertible top, enclosed headlights, triple windshield wipers, 15″ wire wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, and a heater. This E-Type roadster is now offered on behalf of the owner with a clean California title.

The car was stripped to the bare body and repainted in Opalescent Silver Blue in 2020. At that time, a replacement bonnet was installed and the chrome bumpers and trim were replated. Replacement gaskets, seals, and hardware were also fitted along with replacement headlight glass and covers. A navy blue convertible top was installed in 2026.

Replacement 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-section Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is stored in the trunk. The knock-offs show signs of wear. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes and front suspension were rebuilt during the refurbishment, and the steering bushings were replaced.

The cabin was re-trimmed in 2026 and features bucket seats upholstered in navy blue leather with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Equipment includes textured aluminum dash trim, a center console, a sliding rearview mirror, and a Blaupunkt blanking plate. Kilmat sound deadening was applied to the trunk floor. The car is not equipped with sun visors or seatbelts. Scratches are present on the aluminum dashboard.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 71k miles. The fuel gauge is inaccurate.

The replacement 3.8-liter inline-six was removed and rebuilt in 2021. Work included magnafluxing the block, installing sleeves for standard pistons, and rebuilding the cylinder head. The timing chains, water pump, and radiator were replaced at that time, and the triple SU carburetors were overhauled. A high-torque starter was added, and the heater box was refurbished. The fuel tank was stripped, sealed, and powder-coated. The heater intake nozzle for the bonnet is missing but will be included in the sale.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch and throwout bearing were replaced and the flywheel was resurfaced in 2021.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
