    Auction description:
    Lot 143 - 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 to FIA Lightweight Specification
    143 - 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 to FIA Lightweight Specification
    Estimate: £110,000 - £125,000
    Registration Number: WSU 723
    Chassis Number: 878765c

Shortly after the introduction of the E-Type, Jaguar management wanted to investigate the possibility of building a car more in the spirit of the D-Type racer from which elements of the E-Type's styling and design were derived.

The E-type Lightweight was born. Unlike the steel production E-Types, the Lightweight carried extra lightweight aluminium body panels and other components. With the exception of the windscreen, all cockpit glass was perspex. A tuned version of Jaguar's 3.8-litre engine with a wide-angle cylinder head design tested on the D-Type was also standard.

Jaguar planned to produce 18 units but ultimately only a dozen were reportedly built. Of those, one is known to have been destroyed and two others have been converted to coupé form. These are exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors.
WSU 723 is a superb recreation of the iconic lightweight Jaguar E type, and is based on an original 1962 Series 1 E-type. It was rebuilt for long distance touring and racing by Beacon Hill Garage, and built to full FIA specification with Historic Technical Passport to homologation 100 (1963). To date WSU 723 has competed in the Masters Race at Spa, and a variety of Goodwood Track/ test days.

The specification includes, Aluminium bonnet, doors, wings, boot and perspex windows, the correct type 3.8L race/rally engine with triple Webers producing 330lbft/310bhp, FIA specification tubular manifolds and free flow stainless steel exhaust system. Coupled with a Large capacity FIA fuel tank with twin cockpit switchable fuel pumps, Cockpit switchable differential pump, A.P triple plate race clutch and limited slip differential ,uprated axle location with adjustable Koni shock absorbers, and the Correct Dunlop brakes with magnesium wheels.

WSU 723 is eligible for HSCC/Jaguar Heritage E type series with potential for entry to Goodwood, Masters, Spa 6 Hours - the list goes on; or the perfect car for long distance touring events such as Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore with two seats and full interior trim.
With Race harnesses, fire extinguisher and lightweight race seats all new this year, WSU 723 is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition throughout, being tractable, with lots of torque, and handling beautifully. WSU 723 is fully road legal with current MoT until this time next year, and will provide the perfect car for historic racing and for fast road use.
