On March 7, 1962, this elegant E-Type was finished at the Jaguar Works, to be dispatched for the US Market on April 19, 1962. In June of that same year it was delivered to the first owner, G. Allen of Washington, DC. Today the car is finished in the very appropriate British Racing Green over a superb light beige interior, and wonderfully accented by the wood rimmed classic Jaguar steering wheel, the car looks extraordinarily handsome. The dash is fitted with a period radio beautifully accented by the smart aluminum interior trim correctly fitted in these early Series 1 E-Types. Expertly restored with all the right finishes, this E-Type would be sure to impress equally well on a JCNA Show field or on a high speed rally. With chrome wire wheels shod on correct, tall profile bias-ply Firestone tires, this sporting Roadster looks as these cars should. Still with the original engine in place, this E-type is offered with the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate issued for the car. 1962 Jaguar XKE early Series 1 OTS Sherwood Green/Tan. Early because a few weeks later in production they put a notch on the seats to move them back. Tool roll and jack, VIN 876857, Mileage 88,768. I bought this car May 15, 2015 from Laguna Classic Cars in Laguna Beach California. The major work I have had done over the past six years is: new steering rack, rebuilt transmission, rebuilt rear end, electric seven blade fan with shroud and radiator, brakes, new alternator, electronic ignition. In In 2012 the engine was rebuilt with 0.20 pistons and crank turned to 0.10. In terms of its condition, August 21st at the Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours D’ Elegance, it took first place in it’s class with a 99.97. Driven class, bonnet down. I drive this car so the motor is not concourse : ) For the past six years that I have owned it I have collected many trophies from various car shows. In terms of history I have a binder that came with the car and it gives some of the car’s history but not from the beginning and it's very incomplete. I have every piece of paper and receipt related to this car since I bought it six years ago. All the trophies too!!

This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on March 7, 1962 and distributed in the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. The car was repainted green during a body-off refurbishment completed in 2007, and it was acquired by the seller approximately six years ago. Power is supplied by a numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional features include a push-button AM radio, triple SU carburetors, glass headlight covers, four-wheel disc brakes, and chrome knock-off wire wheels. Work during current ownership has reportedly included rebuilds of the transmission and rear end, installation of electronic ignition, and replacement of the fan, radiator, steering rack, and alternator. This Series I roadster is being offered with manufacturer’s literature, a binder of photos from the refurbishment, a tool kit, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificates, service records from current ownership, and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Blue, the car was repainted its current shade of dark green during the refurbishment. Additional work at that time reportedly included repairs to the body and hood, as well as re-chroming or replacing various pieces of brightwork. Exterior features include a louvered hood, a black soft top, replacement glass headlight covers, and a chrome driver’s side-view mirror.

Chrome 15” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with Pirelli tires. The suspension was overhauled during the refurbishment and fitted with replacement bushings, ball joints, tie rods, and shocks, while work during current ownership is said to have included replacement of the steering rack and a refresh of the four-wheel disc brakes.

The cabin was trimmed in light blue from the factory but has since been reupholstered in tan with leather bucket seats and matching door panels and carpets. Features include lap belts, a push-button Radiomobile AM radio, and toggle switches for vehicle functions.

A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with an E-Type center cap sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. A quartet of auxiliary instrumentation in the center stack includes an ammeter, along with displays for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, around 2k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and was reportedly rebuilt in 2012 with .020″ overbore pistons. Work during current ownership is said to have included the installation of electronic ignition, an electric seven-blade fan, and a replacement radiator and alternator. Cylinder head stamping R4437-9. Engine block stamping R4437-9 above, and matches the number stamped on the cylinder head and displayed on the Heritage Trust certificate.

The four-speed manual transmission and rear differential were reportedly rebuilt during current ownership.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows a completion date of March 7, 1962 along with the factory colors and identification numbers.

A binder of photos from the refurbishment will accompany the vehicle.
