According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate on file, chassis no. 876796 was completed on 27 February 1962 and dispatched nearly two months later on 20 April 1962 to Jaguar of Eastern Canada, Montreal, Canada. It was delivered in cream with black convertible top, and a red interior. The E-Type was purchased new by Jack N. Remnant of Toronto, confirmed by a UAC loan document on file which also outlines the purchase price of $6,400. According to the same document the car featured a radio and chrome wire wheels. It is believed the car was used for a number of years before being stored away. In 1985, effort was made to get the car back on the road, this included an engine rebuild by the marque specialists at RPM Motor Works. Significant work was carried out again ten years later, in 1995 with $28,722.06 CAD spent, invoices for both services are included as are some additional services over the years. Impressively this Series 1 E-Type would remain with its original family until acquired by the current owner in 2018.
Following its acquisition, the Jaguar was sent to the Pebble Beach award winning RM Auto Restoration Inc. where an extensive cosmetic restoration was undertaken. Work included a complete body repaint, preplacement of seals and trim where required, repaint and detailing of engine, engine compartment, front suspension, and mechanical sorting of the car. With this work just recently completed this E-Type is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
Today the car remains true to the way it left the factory many years ago. The recent repaint in the correct shade of cream is stunning. Accented nicely by chrome trim and a driver’s side Walpres racing mirror. The interior is trimmed in red leather and features a Radiomobile radio and wood rimmed steering wheel. The E-Type retains its original data plate in addition to its numbers matching engine and head. The odometer displays 67,201 miles which are believed to be original.
