1962 Jaguar XKE Convertible 3.8 Liter 265hp 8 Cylinder 4 Speed Manual Transmission With Triple SU Carbs SS Exhaust, Professional Restoration Completed In 2003, 1,600 Miles Since Then, All Photos, Documentation And Receipts Of Restoration Included Along With Tool Kit, Warranty Book And 3.8 Series Manual. With The 3.8 Liter E Type, I Bought This Early Production (March) 1962 E Type In April Of 1980. I Did A Professional And Comprehensive Restoration To Original Starting In Spring Of 2001 And Completed The Project In July Of 2003. The Restoration Included A Complete Disassembly Of The Car. The Body Was Stripped To Metal, Where We Found A Spot On Rust In Front Of The Passenger Rear Wheel. Because Of That, We Removed The Rocker Panels To Check The Sub Structure (The Area Where Jaguar Was Notorious For Rotting). The Sub Structure Was Perfect. We Prepared The Metal Finish, Primed The Body, Sealed All Joints And Painted It Bright White. The 265 Horsepower Twin Overhead Camshaft Engine Was Rebuilt, Painted Original Color And All Aluminum Was Polished. During Rebuilding It Was Revealed That The Heads Of This Engine Were From The Race Department At Jaguar Because They Were Ported And Polished. The Independent Front And Rear Suspension (Springs, Shocks, Bushings, Etc) Were Replaced. The Brake System Was Completely Replaced (Master Cylinder, Servo, Calapurs, Rotors And Lines). The Transmission (Original Four Speed Sync 2nd Through 4th) Was Reworked By A Professional Co. In Woodland, CA. The Clutch Was Replaced And The Drive Train Including The Rear End Was Reworked. The Triple SU Carburetors Were Rebuilt Along With A New Gas Tank, Sending Unit And Fuel Lines. The Cooling System Has The Original Radiator That Was Disassembled, Cleaned And Reassembled With All New Hoses And The Electric Fan Motor. I Added An Additional Electrical Fan Inside The Front Scoop Attached To The Debris Screen. This Fan Can Be Turned On If Caught In Heavy Traffic During Summer Months. Complete Wire Harness And Rubber Kit Was Installed. A Stainless Steel Exhaust System Was Fitted At The Completion. The Entire Red Connolly Leather Interior Was Purchased In September Of 1987 And Saved Until Restoration Was Complete. All Photos, Documentation, Receipts Of Restoration Are Included Along With Tool Kit, Warranty Book And A 3.8 Series Manual. This Is A Beautiful Driving Automobile, Especially While Touring In The 70 To 80 Mile Per Hour Range. Mileage: 41,600 Miles

Auction description:
Classic Car Auction of Michigan
26 - 27 April 2008
Lot SP05
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Convertible
To be auctioned on Saturday, April 26, 2008
High Bid of $75,000
Chassis no. 876602
The example offered here is a handsome example of the British manufacturer's commitment to excellence in engineering and design. The current owner purchased this car 1980, with 40,000 miles on the odometer. Starting in 2001, the professional and comprehensive restoration was completed in July of 2003. The rocker panels were removed, with no rust found on the sub structure. Stripped to bare metal, the car was primed and sealed, then painted bright white. The entire red Connolly leather interior was purchased from GW Bartlett Company in September of 1987, and saved until the restoration was underway.
The engine was rebuilt and refinished in the original color, while all aluminum components were polished. Interestingly, the cylinder head was revealed to have been ported and polished by the racing department at Jaguar, and installed as such when the car was produced, due to tight supplies of parts, and high demand for the new E-Type.
The independent front suspension systems feature new springs, shock absorbers and suspension bushings, and the brake system has been replaced as well. Straight Six, Inc., of Woodland, California, reworked the original four-speed manual transmission while the fuel systems were completely overhauled as well.
This beautiful first series E-Type is reported to be a joy to drive, and comes complete with photographic documentation of the restoration process, along with receipts, a tool kit, warranty book, and a manual. This well-restored and sorted example will undoubtedly be a reliable and sporting motor car that will provide its next owner with ease in ownership and maintenance as well.
