Im a 52yr old- been dabbling in cars in my adulthood since my first car- 1969 Camaro purchased in 1986. have done several ground up restos, but all have been American Muscle cars. I do all my own work, but with the e-type, i will have the engine rebuilt by a professional.

This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was completed on January 10, 1962, and delivered to Stewart’s of Phoenix, Arizona, via Jaguar Cars of New York. The car is said to have remained in the same family from 1963 until it was purchased by the seller in 2022. A subsequent refurbishment involved repainting the car in Opalescent Gunmetal, refreshing the interior in red leather, overhauling the 3.8-liter inline-six, and installing a replacement four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh. Additional features include a black soft top, 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and glass headlamp covers. This XKE is offered with a Jaguar Production Record Trace Certificate, a mileage log from the 1960s, partial service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Delivered from the factory in Opalescent Gunmetal, the body was stripped and placed on a rotisserie before being refinished during the refurbishment. Features include dual exhaust outlets, split chrome-finished bumpers, a louvered hood, and glass headlamp covers.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with Bridgestone radial tires, while a matching spare wheel with a Vredestein tire is stowed under the trunk floor. Stopping power is provided by servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear units.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in red leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Features include textured aluminum trim on the dashboard and center console, a heater, a cigar lighter, and lap belts.

The three-spoke steering wheel features exposed aluminum on the inner rim and frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows less than 67k miles, approximately 40 of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and is said to have been overhauled under current ownership with oversized pistons, a re-ground crankshaft, a rebuilt cylinder head, and a replacement oil pump, timing chains, and camshaft bearings. Engine block and cylinder head stampings, R3003–9 match the number listed on the Jaguar Production Record Trace Certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh that was installed under current ownership.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a build date of January 10, 1962, as well as factory colors and serial numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
