Ultra-desirable ‘Flat Floor’ Series 1 3.8 E-type roadster
Older restoration, converted to RHD specification
Supplied with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate
Dating from the first year of production, this desirable 3.8-litre E-type roadster left the factory on December 1, 1961 and featured the so-called ‘flat floor’ unique to these early production cars. The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate confirms the original colours were Opalescent Silver Grey with black interior trim – a fabulous combination that really highlighted the E-type’s sexy curves.
Like the vast majority of E-type production, this example was shipped across the Atlantic to North America and retailed through Jaguar Cars of New York. Refinished in red with contrasting black upholstery, the Jaguar came to Australia many years ago and was converted to right-hand drive upon arriving here. The car spent some years as part of the Moxham collection in Armidale, NSW and has more recently been owned by a Sydney enthusiast. Showing 39,407 miles on the clock, the engine and gearbox numbers both correspond with the chassis plate but it should be noted the chassis number isn’t stamped on the frame, a common enough issue with E-types. Recent work has seen the brakes overhauled in November 2021, a service and oil change in December 2021 and the gear selector was repaired in January 2022. The owner has also fitted new tyres and inner tubes, along with a new roof tonneau cover.
A good driver-level E-type, the Jaguar presents well but could use some cosmetic refurbishment in places; the seats and trim are showing a little wear commensurate with age, while the paint is fair. The chrome has some pitting in places and there is an aftermarket luggage rack fitted. Estimated accordingly, the E-type can be enjoyed as is but would ultimately benefit from a restoration back to its former glory. Currently registered on non-transferable historic plates in NSW and therefore sold unregistered, the E-type comes with a copy of the Heritage Trust Certificate.
