Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 "Flat Floor" Roadster in Red with Black interior. Southern California car with both its original Black Plates. Same owner since 1975, now a little too old to use it. This is an early 3.8 Roadster, produced after the outside latch cars, but still with flat floors and inset bonnet louvres. ID. numbers are as follows: Car No. 876070. Body No. R2293. Gearbox No. EB1681JS. Engine No. R24919. Car number is also stamped on the front suspection rail and this is relevant because if the car sustains any front end damage that rail often gets changed. The engine number is correct and matching as is the cylinder head. The color was changed 20 years or so ago, the space frame around the engine is the original color. The change to red is complete everywhere else; underside of hood, door jambs, inside the trunk, etc. The seats & top have been re-done recently, the seats are in good quality leather. Many of these early cars have had later braking systems and transmissions fitted, this car is completely stock with original Moss Box and "bellow" brakes. Complete engine rebuilt 15/20 years ago, valve job 3 years ago, clutch 2 years ago, new generator also done recently. Drives really well with great oil pressure, not smokey, good transmission & clutch. Brakes & steering are also good. Superb rust free original floors. Excellent rocker panels, trunk is also excellent. No signs of rust anywhere. Never damaged, all original body panels, superb body fit, hood aligns perfectly.

Desirable 1st year of production flat floor example
Matching numbers
Original California car with 1 owner from 1975-2007
Accompanied by JDHT Heritage certificate
The Jaguar E-Type re-invented the sports car market around the world and the early 'Flat Floor' design models have become a bedrock to many of the the most important collections.
This lovely example was built in November 1961 and was shipped to it's first owner, Mr. Ted Buky of Los Angeles, California. The car remained in California until 2007 at which point the elderly gentleman, who had owned the car since 1975, decided it was time to finally part with the car and it was sold into New Jersey. In 2009 the car was sold to Jan Mannerhag in Sweden, who quickly went right through the car to make sure it was perfect. Today the car is presented in outstanding condition with stunning paint and excellent mechanicals. We have covered nearly 200 miles in the past two weeks and it hasn't missed a beat. A truly stunning example ready for a continental tour.

Desirable first-year, flat-floor E-Type Roadster
Retains original engine
Period tool kit and tyre jack among features
Please note this car is titled with date of first registration 1962
The E-Type became an instant icon the moment it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. The excitement was repeated a month later at the New York International Auto Show. Frank Sinatra declared at the stand: 'I want that car and I want it now.' Though not a man to be refused, the salesman rejected his request as all the cars in the country had been sold.
In all likelihood, this Roadster's first owner, Ted Buky, beat Sinatra when he took delivery in Los Angeles, California, after dispatch in November 1961. This 'flat floor' example was originally finished in opalescent bronze over a beige interior with a fawn convertible top. He kept the car until 1975 when it was sold to another California resident who retained it until 2007. During that time the engine was rebuilt, the colour changed to Signal Red and the interior refreshed in black leather. It was then sold to a New Jersey owner.
In 2009, the E-Type was sold to Jan Mannerhag and exported to Sweden. Following a sympathetic light restoration in the UK, it has barely been used since. It still features the original-specification Moss gearbox and 'bellows' brakes, just as it left the Brown's Lane factory, and is accompanied by its JDHT certificate.
Considered by many to be a work of art, a similar example is a permanent exhibit at the New York Museum of Modern Art. This stunning, rare E-Type is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.

We recently completely dismantled the car and repainted it back in the original factory colour Opalescent Bronze. We also did a complete rebuild of all mechanical parts (brake suspension, etc.) and renewed the electric wiring loom. The entire interior has been renewed too, in the original factory colour beige and the hood soft top in colour fawn. Now this car is back to all its original specifications and perfect condition. This beauty is absolutely stunning and ready to be driven by its next owner.
