We are in the midst of a ground up restoration to original specs (except color) and hope to be finished some time in 2008. I had the pleasure of driving the car for 4 yrs before taking it apart and those wonderful memories keep me going (and paying!).

Manufactured 7 September 1961 and dispatched to a distributor in Frankfurt, Germany on 27 September 1961, this car was reportedly sold new to an Air Force Serviceman stationed in Europe at the time of purchase. As an early-production car, it features flat floor pans, welded bonnet louvers, and high-back seats with an aluminum dash and console. It left the factory finished in Cream with a black soft-top over a black interior.

As confirmed by a copy of its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate and photos of stampings, the car retains its numbers-matching 3.8-liter engine and cylinder head. Circa 2006, the Jaguar received a comprehensive restoration which brought the body down to bare metal for refinishing. Today, it sports a classic British Racing Green paint finish over a traditional tan leather interior, a beautiful combination that is, to many, the quintessential E-Type livery. Nearly two decades after completion of the restoration, this Jaguar continues to present in splendid condition with lustrous brightwork.

This 1961 Jaguar XKE is a left-hand-drive Series I flat-floor roadster that was completed on September 7, 1961 and originally sold to a US Air Force Captain through a distributor in Germany. It reportedly underwent refurbishment approximately 18 years ago that included repainting the body in green, replacing the black soft top, and re-trimming the interior in tan leather. The car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include welded hood louvers, flat floors, glass headlight covers, triple SU carburetors, a Blaupunkt push-button radio, four-wheel disc brakes, and knock-off wire wheels. This XKE was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered offered with two Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificates, 2023 service records, and a clean California title.

This Series I is a flat-floor example that features a continuous floorboard under each seat. Originally white, the car was refinished in British Racing Green, reportedly circa 2006. Additional exterior equipment includes a black soft top, a soft top boot, welded hood louvers, enclosed headlights, a wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with Pirelli Cinturato radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the front brake calipers were rebuilt in March 2023.

The cabin features bucket seats that were originally upholstered in black and were re-trimmed in tan leather during the aforementioned refurbishment. Interior appointments include textured aluminum dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 650 miles, approximately 4 of which were added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A heater hose was replaced and the coolant was serviced in March 2023. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificates show the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

Almost certainly originally delivered in Frankfurt, Germany and not USA, although the 1st owner was an American, most likely serving in Germany. The new interior does not look at all like ”Light Tan” Connolly VM.3104, more like Biscuit or later Cinnamon. Could also be Beige, but perhaps a tad darker. Cheers!
