    Car offered at:
    www.smithsveglia.nl

    Sellers description:
Jaguar E-type 3.8 Litre series 1 OTS (Open Two Seater), year 1961. Colour red with a black leather interior and a black mohair soft top. This fabulous E-type was restored in the year 1989, the engine and other mechanics have been overhauled in the year 1996. Since 1989 the car drove less than 13.000 kilometers! The automobile is in superb (excellent+) condition and this Jag drives perfect! This is a Jaguar E-type from the first series. These early cars can be recognized by the outside bonnet latches, welded in bonnet louvers and the flat floor of the passenger compartment. Chassis number 875359. This E-type was shipped to Jaguar Cars of New York on August 31, 1961. The first owner was Dr. Abner from Houston, Texas. In the mid-seventies of the twentieth century the car found a new owner in England. In the year 1979 the E-type met his current owner who cherished the car for 27 years! The car features very exclusive Borrani wire wheels with new Pirelli 4000 tires and a very attractive Becker Grand Prix classic radio. The car is registered in Germany.

This car has the chassis-number plate situated on a peculiar place, on the right-hand side of the fireplate.(On early cars this was the place where the body-number late was pop-riveted) The text on the plate is in German. It is known that a additional chassis-number plate was mounted on this place by French-specifaction cars (see Haddock book "Jaguar E-type Restoration Guide on page 83) Whether this was done by German-specifaction cars I don't know.
Besides, the car was delivered new in the USA. Maybe this was done during a restoration of the car in Germany
There is also a chassis-number stamped on the right-hand side in the engine compartement, under the windshield washer bottle... I never see that before...

I have seen this on a few cars, most notably Germany and France. Have not seen one in North America, perhaps it was added as an import requirement.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
