In February of 1989, 875340 was located in Canada. At that time it was reported to have body number R1460 stamped on the plate located in the trunk, and body number R1455 stamped on the aluminium number plate in the engine compartment. In later reports, it was stated to have been built on August 17, 1961 (perhaps this is the dispatch date), and to have master cylinder strap dates of July 28 and August 1. It had an oval slot in the bottom of the front of the hood for the con-rod-operated tilting front license-plate bracket, and a pocket on the right rear of the console for the T-key. However, the car was reported to be in restored condition, so it is not clear which of these features were original. It was fitted with screens and slots for the upcoming changeover to interior hood latches. In late 1993 the owner was considering selling the car at the January 1994 Barrett-Jackson auction. Body number plate: R1460 on body, R1455 on main ID plate

I own car #875343, body R1399 and the certificate from J.D.H.T. gives a build date of 17 August 1961. Master cylinder strap dates Dom. 27 7 61 and 17 5 61. Also has the oval slot in bottom of bonnet for tilting license plate but no licence plate holder and rod, and has pocket on right side of console for 'T' bar, and screws and slots for upcoming interior latches. This car is totally original and unrestored flat floor, outside locks, etc.. I have owned it for 40 years.

Car now offered at:
www.marreyt.com/en/stocklist/jaguar-e-type-s1-roadster-outside-bonnet-lock
Belgium, previously Vöcklamarkt, Austria
Seller's description:
Jaguar E-type S1 Roadster 'Outside Bonnet Lock'
Year 1961
Engine 3800
Colour Opalescent Gunmetal
Transmission Manual gearbox
Steering Left (LHD)
This particular E-type is a very early ‘Outside Bonnet Lock’ model! According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, chassis #340 was produced on 17th of August 1961 and shipped to Jaguar Cars, New York, USA. Finished in the beautiful combination of ‘Opalescent Gunmetal’ with a red interior.
Little is known about the car's early history. What is certain is that this E-type found her way back to Europe (Austria) in 2007. There, the car became part of a unique Jaguar collection, with very limited use resulting. That is precisely the reason why the car, to this day, is still in exceptionally fine condition.
Still being matching on engine + cylindered & colors, this early flatfloor E-type roadster is absolutely a pleasure to drive!
