This incredible, first-generation XKE outside bonnet latch roadster is currently under restoration to the highest standards of show-level correctness! It's not every day that a first generation E-Type with such a high degree of patina, originality, and sought-after features like flat floors and welded louvers comes along, but Classic Showcase has found such a car, and are very excited about restoring such a rare and unique piece of Jaguar history. This 1961 XKE roadster is number 331 in early E-type production history, and has a mere 10K original driving miles; Having benefited from being stored in a warehouse for 40 years, the E-Type has kept virtually all of it's originality intact, with the minor exception of a coat of red paint applied during the early course of its driving life. Under the bonnet, the roadster is mechanically all-original, with all mechanics, parts, and accessories left in a wonderfully preserved state. With an anticipated completion date of early 2014, Classic Showcase is currently performing a comprehensive restoration this rare XKE to the highest Show level possible. Included in the restoration process, the vehicle has been dissembled, and the interior has been removed and documented, the vehicle body has been worked, the metal finished, fitted, and leaded as needed, and all body parts and chrome will be fitted to the car; It has been primed, sealed, and had a base coat applied, and is in the process of receiving a clear coat, and will then be color sanded and buffed to a beautiful finish. All systems are being gone through and are being restored and replaced as necessary. The transmission, clutch, and hydraulic systems are in the process of being fully restored, and the car will receive all new rubber , grommets and seals. In addition, the britework will be completely re-plated to Show level quality as well. The car is in the process of receiving all new upholstery, and will be fitted in the correct materials by master upholsterers in our Upholstery Department. The roadster's parts and components are in the process of being restored in the proper colors and finishes as well, and we will be using NOS parts wherever possible. Extreme attention to detail is being given because of the importance of this early, highly original E-type. A DVD of the restoration process, along with a Heritage Certificate of authenticity will accompany the vehicle. This first generation XKE is truly an amazingly preserved time capsule, and is sure to cause a collector and enthusiast sensation at future Concours events upon it's completion; Truly for the discerning Jaguar collector demanding the best!

Car to be at auction 8/14

    www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm

    Lot 142

    1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster

To be auctioned on Friday, August 15, 2014

    $375,000 - $450,000

    Chassis no. 875331

    Engine no. R 1464-9

    Body no. R 1443

    Gearbox no. EB 567 JS

    Early outside-bonnet latch, flat-floor, welded-louver Series 1

Received 100 points at the 2014 JCNA Concours and a First in Class at the 2014 San Marino Classic Concours

Tremendous preservation of its original sheet metal and mechanicals

Documented as matching-numbers engine and transmission by JDHT

In recent years, the supply of highly original early E-Types for restoration has dwindled sharply, so the discovery of an original low-mileage example was notable. Fortunately, it ended up in the care of an experienced Jaguar restoration facility, marque specialists Classic Showcase, which had the foresight to preserve as much of the car's originality as possible. In their California shop, they performed a no-expense-spared rotisserie restoration of this gem. A 100-point result at the May 2014 Jaguar Owner's Club of Los Angeles Annual Concours d'Elegance is evidence of the car's quality. This perfect concours score is even more startling when one considers the restoration did not depend on reproduction parts but rather NOS and the refinishing of original mechanical parts and accessories. A few weeks later, "Blue Diamond" again won First in Class while at its second event, the San Marino Concours. Complementing that is a fully reworked and leaded body that has been finished in the same Opalescent Dark Blue as indicated on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. Its completely replated brightwork calls attention to the correct, early Series 1 outside-bonnet-latch roadster upper-door chrome finisher, and inside is all-new, complete, and correct light blue upholstery and a dark blue hood, as it had when it left the factory. The restoration process is completely documented on a comprehensive DVD, which accompanies the car.

No single car has ever cast a longer shadow over the sports car world than the E-Type, and while all of them have features to appeal to any sports car lover, there's tremendous satisfaction in the first of the breed. As the Blue Diamond has been shown in a JCNA Concours only one time since restoration, and before that largely unseen since the 1960s, it is perfectly poised to embark on a long and fruitful second act, showing the world exactly what an early Series 1 should be.

Fortunately, it ended up in the care of an experienced Jaguar restoration facility, marque specialists Classic Showcase, which had the foresight to preserve as much of the car’s originality as possible. In their California shop, they performed a no-expense-spared rotisserie restoration of this gem. A 100-point result at the May 2014 Jaguar Owners Club of Los Angeles annual Concours d’Elegance is evidence of the car’s excellent overall quality. A few weeks later, “Blue Diamond” again won 1st in Class while at its second event, the San Marino Concours. The completely replated brightwork calls attention to the correct, early Series 1 outside-bonnet-latch and upper-door chrome finisher. The sumptuous interior features correct light blue upholstery and a dark blue convertible top, as it had when it left the factory.

As the current owner is a perfectionist, an additional $23,000 was spent to further enhance this already spectacular E-Type after he acquired it in 2014. Improvements included the acquisition of the correct jack ($2,000), tools, and show-quality manuals. Additionally, this E-Type was fitted with a period-correct radio and antenna, new old-stock Jaguar seat belts, and year-of-manufacture license plates. Additional detailing included an expert color sanding and polishing, as well as an engine service. These efforts were rewarded with a 1st in Class win at the 2015 Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance. This stunning early outside-bonnet-latch E-Type is simply one of the best of the best.
