Info gathered with permission from:
www.hendi.nl/xke/main.htm

In July of 1980, 875274 was reported to be located in Missouri, and to have been originally sold to a leasing company. It had been purchased by it's owner as of that time, about four years previously, in 'wrecked/vandalized condition." The car had been repainted gunmetal grey with a dark-blue vinyl Interior. It was refurbished, but about 1978 it was in an accident with an International Harvester Scout and its hood was badly damaged. A restoration was planned toward the end of 1980, with the colors planned to be a red exterior and a biscuit interior. Dispatch date October 1961

I purchased this car in Jan 2013. Minor mechanical refurbishment and some cosmetics by Classic Showcase of Oceanside to bring it to "excellent" condition. A big crowd pleaser.

Car to be at auction 8/19

Auction description:

Lot 175

Quail Lodge Auction

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 'External Bonnet-Latch'

US$ 275,000 - 325,000

Chassis no. 875274

Engine no. R1395-9

This highly sought after, hard to find external bonnet-latch, flat-floor E-Type Roadster was dispatched from the factory on August 3rd, 1961 and exported to Jaguar Cars, New York. Chassis No. 875274 is the 274th E-Type Roadster constructed and initially left the factory sporting a Carmen Red exterior with a black interior and hood. The cars first registered owner is listed as Executive Leasing Co., in Clayton, Missouri. At some point during the 1990s, the vehicle is believed to have received nut and bolt restoration and was meticulously brought back to pristine condition by marque specialists, JK restorations. During the restoration, the car was adorned with a stunning Opalescent Green Metallic paint job and a Biscuit leather interior, protected by a black top. The transmission was upgraded with a new Tremec 5-speed all synchro gearbox while the original, numbers matching Moss box and bell housing were retained and are supplied with the car. The modern transmission makes the car a real joy to use in modern traffic while also being completely reversible with the possession of the original equipment.

Upon acquiring the roadster, the consignor, a southern Californian based collector, sent the early E-type to the experts at Classic Showcase in Oceanside, California to be fully sorted. A near $10,000 invoice documents the work performed which included the replacement of the shocks, bushings, and the fitment of a new exhaust system. After enjoying the car for the next 3 years, the consignor would again have the car sent to another marque specialist, XKS Motorsport, to further fettle and perfect its operation. Receipts for the recent work is included in the cars history file. The car has been a real hit at local events and gatherings, always drawing a crowd of onlookers who are thrilled to see the rarest of the E-Types. In addition to retaining the numbers matching engine, head, and transmission, the bonnet also possesses the body number stamping showing that it is original to the car.

Featuring the initial, purest iteration of the famed E-Type styling, this Roadster contains the prized features unique to the earliest examples produced (of which this is), including the exterior bonnet-latches, welded louvers, and flat floors. All of these features were later abandoned in the name of practicality and production costs, and make this a particularly notable, rare example of one of the world's most iconic sports cars. Accompanying the car is a tool kit & wrap, service invoices, and Jaguar documentation. Unquestionably one of the earliest and most desirable examples of the breed, Chassis no. 875274 is a must-have for any serious collector.

Car to return to auction 1/20

rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/az20/arizona/lots/r0094-1961-jaguar-e-type-series-1-3 ...

Auction description:

Lot Number 137

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster

Offered Without ReserveRM | Sotheby's - ARIZONA 16 - 17 JANUARY 2020

Chassis No. 875274

Engine No. R 1395-9

Body No. R 1373

Ultra-collectable early E-Type with external hood latches, welded louvers, and flat floors

One of the original 385 left-hand-drive roadsters with these features

Original numbers-matching chassis, engine, and body

Upgraded with Tremec five-speed; includes its original Moss gearbox

Accompanied by tool kit and documented with invoices and JDHT certificate

Beautifully prepared and strong-running example

Ideal for Jaguar club presentation and driving enjoyment

Please note that this lot is titled as a 1962.

As the 274th left-hand-drive example built, this beautifully presented roadster is one of the early cars equipped with the aforementioned features. Originally finished in Carmen Red with a black interior and a matching black soft top, chassis 875274 was dispatched from the factory in early August 1961. In the early 1990s the Jaguar was fully restored by marque specialists JK Restorations in Illinois. The coachwork was repainted in a deep finish of Opalescent Green Metallic, while the interior was trimmed in new Biscuit leather. During restoration the roadster was upgraded with a modern cooling system and a Tremec five-speed transmission. The original four-speed Moss gearbox and bell housing accompany the car. The modern transmission makes the car a joy to drive while also being completely reversible with the addition of the original equipment.

The E-Type was acquired by the current owner in 2013 and subsequently submitted to Classic Showcase in Oceanside, California, for a freshening that included the replacement of the shock absorbers and bushings and the installation of a new exhaust system and ceramic-coated manifolds. The consignor exhibited the car at local concours and Jaguar events, where it always drew praise and commendation. Around 2016 the roadster was entrusted to XKS Motorsport for further mechanical upgrades and tuning, resulting in a car that showcases much of its original 1961 performance.

Accompanied by a tool kit and documented with restoration and service invoices, as well as a JDHT certificate, this exquisite E-Type retains its matching-numbers engine and body panels and is one of the rare and valuable early left-hand-drive examples that feature external hood latches, welded louvers, and flat floors. It would make a fabulous acquisition for any Jaguar enthusiast, ideal for further display or private enjoyment.

I've been the proud owner of this vehicle for a couple of months now. The car is beautiful and a blast to drive. I've taken it to several shows and it has received high praise even from the Jaguar purists. Easily one of my most favorites of the cars I've owned.

David, congratulations! Since a previous owner had the car in the hands of Classic Showcase you can be assured whatever they did was excellent work.
