January 2003 RM Auction, Phoenix, lot #88. Sports Car Market report reads:

"3.8-liter, 265-bhp 6-cylinder. Driver's door, hood fit off, otherwise a sharp Jag and the first of the breed, which means flat floors, external bonnet latches and welded hood louvers. For Jaguar fans, these characteristics make the cars extra-desirable."

Car was given away at the mecum auction in 2009. at 65,ooo . Someone got a very nice car for 1/2 price.or less. In my opinion it needs only polishing in the engine compartment to make this a #1 showcar. But this is based on Pixs observations only.

Car to return to auction 8/11

www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm

Auction description:

Lot S104 Monterey 2011 Aug 18-20

This very rare 1961 XKE convertible is number 110 in the model's production history, a California car that has been restored to impeccable condition. Exhibiting the "flat floor" interior and external hood latches that mark the earliest production models, the bright Red cat purrs under the power of a 4-speed backed 3.8 liter inline 6, the direct descendant of the engines that drove the famous D-Type racers to repeat victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Sir William Lyons' intuitive sense of aerodynamics inspired the XKE's gorgeous lines that were at their purest form in this first generation car.
