Early E-Types have such great visual appeal, it’s no wonder they continue to be rock solid investments in the classic car market. Ours is an Australian-delivered Series 1 right-hand drive 1964 3.8 Coupe, delivered through Australian distributor Brysons, and having been in its current ownership for about 12 years. Originally painted Sherwood Green, this two-seater E-Type is now finished in bright red with Tan leather trim, and presents well inside and out. There’s some paint crazing on the rear hatch and pickling to some of the chrome body furniture, while inside there’s some scrunching to the driver and passenger floormats, an easy fix with a new set of mats. A lovely Momo woodrim steering wheel replaces the original, along with a more modern Pioneer radio-cassette player, and it sits on a set of chromed wire wheels. Under the long shapely bonnet, there’s a period replacement 3.8 litre straight six engine which now sports a rebuilt head from around three years ago, after the previous one cracked and couldn’t be repaired. Just prior to its purchase, a dozen years’ back, significant mechanical work was undertaken by Jaguar guru Mike Roddy on the engine and original gearbox, including a clutch replacement. Regularly serviced and well maintained, this E-Type also comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, a Jaguar E-Type service manual, Haynes owner’s workshop manual and a Jaguar E-Type restorer’s guide. At the affordable end of the series 1 E-Type price spectrum, this example should represent good buying. Previously on Victorian club registration, the 1964 Jaguar E-Type is being offered for sale here unregistered.
