Car found in a BBC article
www.bbc.com/autos/gallery/20160919-in-pictures-the-cat-in-the-barn

Beyond its historic value, the unexpected discovery of a lost treasure, be it a Caravaggio in an attic in France or the bones of a king in a car park in Leicester, spurs a special kind of excitement. These moments reinforce the persistent belief that anyone, anywhere, can push a spade into the ground or pry open a long-sealed door ... and strike gold.

A dilapidated garage in Cheshire recently yielded just such a find: a 1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Coupé, untouched for decades -- but beneath the detritus, remarkably well preserved. Relatives of its deceased owner discovered the car, number plate 'PRF 935B', and turned to the vintage-car auction house H&H Classic for guidance. And on 12 October, this old E will take a star turn -- mouse poo and all -- at the H&H sale at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Series I cars, built between 1961 and 1964, are far and away the E-Types most prized by collectors. And because some 85% of Jaguar's sports car production was earmarked for export, most to left-hand-drive markets, this car happens to be especially rare: It is one of only 1,798 right-hand-drive 3.8-litre Coupés to emerge from the factory in Coventry.

Considering the perennial popularity of the immortal E-Type Jaguar, it's extraordinary how many have been confined to barns over the years and are only now resurfacing to the delight of new would-be owners. So, if you missed the last one for some reason, take due heed of 'PRF 935B', a delightfully unmolested late 3.8-litre Coupe that's just been exposed to the full light of day for the first time in c.40 years and not even been started for c.15. Finished in Red matched to a Grey interior, it was apparently supplied new by Byatts of Fenton (then the Jaguar dealer for the Stoke-On-Trent area) to F. Fradley Ltd of Hanley, Staffs, since when it has had just two private keepers - namely Arthur Henry Brooks of Leek, Staffs, and the deceased husband of the vendor, who purchased it for his wife in 1970. At the time they too were Staffordshire based, but moved to Cheshire in the late '70s; so it's fair to surmise that most of the E-Type's miles have been accrued in and around the Staffordshire area and it's pleasing to note it retains its original Staffs registration number.

Bearing in mind the above history, the car's indicated mileage of just 52,738 is more than credible, if not completely warranted. It is now being offered complete with decades of dust plus: the green log book; original handbook; warranty card; service book containing eight entries; Jaguar Heritage Certificate; and five old MOT certificates, the last of which was dated 1973/1974, at which point the mileage apparently stood at 50,000. It's fair to say 'PRF 935B' will take a lot of restoration work at a not inconsiderable cost, but the opportunity to acquire an apparently complete and unmolested right-hand drive 3.8 Coupe, of which only 1,798 were made, will doubtless set many a pulse racing.
