Car to be at auction 1/11
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 226 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Litre Fixedhead Coupe
226 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Litre Fixedhead Coupe
Estimate: £24,000 - £28,000
Registration Number: 707 EAT
Chassis Number: 860720
707 EAT started life as a RHD export model shipped to South Africa where it was reputedly used in competition. Approximately 12 years later the Jaguar was moved to Rhodesia where it remained until in 1977, fearing for its security, the then owner drove it through the night to Cape Town from where it was shipped back to the UK. Apparently car insurance was expensive even then because, on discovering what it would cost to insure the e-type in the UK, the car was sold to the gentleman who is offering it for sale today.
The current owner has used his Jaguar in a number of sprints and hill climbs including a long distance hill climb during the Jaguar Drivers Club ‘21st Anniversary of the E type’ rally to Geneva and another hill climb in Austria in 1983, which was organised by the Jaguar legend Lofty England. 707 EAT was a regular at the Brighton Speed Trials in the early 1980s, and appeared again at Goodwood and several times at Cornbury Park in the 1990s. With the car’s outstanding performance a respectable result was always assured. Many classic car rallies in France followed in the years to date.
With around 68,000 miles on the clock, which are believed to be genuine, this is an original car in good overall condition. Some subtle modifications have been made including uprated subframe rubbers, performance stainless steel exhaust, a four point harness and the boot floor has been replaced with an aluminium firewall for the fuel tank. The original engine, gearbox and axle are described as being in good condition having been maintained with no expense spared. The old English white paintwork is in fair condition and the black leather interior is nicely patinated.
This is a lovely, original example of the most attractive and collectible version of the E-type, on the button and ready to be used.
