Delivered by Emmer Green Cars in Reading, Original Registration: 1738 DP. The car had 8 owners between 1962 and 1985 and was thereafter exported to The Isle of Man and registered as 38EMN, where it stayed until June 2009.
It underwent a bare metal re-spray in 1988 with replacement of outer sills and front wings (photo documentation available). The colour was changed from Sherwood Green (original colour) to BRG and the interior was re trimmed in Tan (original Suede Green). It also underwent an engine rebuild at 88070 miles by Dave Ward and Motivations Engineering. A competition flywheel and new radiator where fitted.
I acquired the car in June 2009 from Lanes Cars (97075 miles), where it underwent a full 10 month mechanical and partial bodywork rebuild (fully documented), with sensible upgrades.
The front end of the car was fully dismanteled. Bulkhead cleaned and panels replaced as necessary. New upgraded engine frame. New wiring loom incl. bonnet. New brake and fuel lines. Brake system upgraded to later Series 1 System with ventilated discs and 4 pot front callipers (Coopercraft). All new front suspension (plated), new upper wishbones, stub axles and quick ratio . steering rack. Polybushes. Uprated torsion bars, fully adjustable shock absorbers and adjustable reaction plate (Rob Beere). Re cored radiator, new header tank, new hoses and CoolCat fan. New heater core and valve.
Fully rebuild engine: Cleaned, tested, painted, crank and flywheel balanced. New bearings. Rear seal conversion New conrods and bolts, new 9:1 pistons. Fully overhauled cylinder head with new seats, guides, valves and springs, original camshaft.. New timing gear. Uprated water and oil pump. Spin on oil filter and oil cooler. 123 Ignition System. High torque starter motor and comp. alternator, new battery. Carburettors and linkage overhauled ITG sports filter.
New clutch, clutch master and slave cylinder. 5 speed gearbox by E Type Fabs fitted. Full rear axle and suspension rebuild incl. differential. Double adjustable shocks, new springs, later Jaguar brake callipers and hand brake. Vented Rossini discs.
Interior left original. Carpets replaced. Aluminium on dashboard replaced, new steering wheel. Some new chrome trim. All instruments checked. New Voltmeter (alternator conversions). Becker Radio with Sat Nav incl. speakers hand free mobile and I pod adaptor (hidden).
Bodywork: Boot floor, sills, bulkhead, engine frames and bonnet, painted in BRG, Bumpers re chromed, H4 lights fitted. Full cavity Waxoil treatment.
The car's bodywork and interior show a nice patina preserving the original character combined with improved handling and performance ideal for continental touring or fast road events. The car has never been raced.
It will be delivered with full MOT (March 2011) and 12 month Tax (Tax exempt), full history file including photographic record and invoices from previous rebuilds and original parts which have been removed during restoration (original gearbox, airfilter, most of the brake parts e.g.)
Full major service by Classic Autosports, Inverkeilor, Scotland, April 2011.

Car to return to auction 3/21

Auction description:
GreenColour:
Lot No.749
Reg: 847XUV
1962 JAGUAR E-TYPE 3.8 - 3779cc £65000 - £75000
ESTIMATE £65000 - £75000 sold at £60500
Chassis Number 860417 - the first 1962 Chassis Number being 860134. We can see from the cars Heritage Certificate that this example was supplied by Great Western Motors of Reading to a local Garage proprietor being despatched from the factory on May 9th 1962 and first registered on June 21st 1962 as "1738DP" which would have been a Reading issued registration plate from February 1962 until May 1964. From the cars large and deatiled history file we can see the car was taken to and registered on the Isle of Man on March 5th 1975 as "38EMN" returning to Mainland UK and being reregistered on April 14th 2010 as "847XUV". The afore mentioned incredible history along with two restorations one in 1991 and another in 2009 give an insight into this cars life. The vendor states the car is a matching number car but the original gearbox is retained but not fitted as he has an upgraded 5 speed box fitted for driveability and also states that the car benefits from upgraded brakes again for driveability.
