Auction description:
Lot 25, 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe [Location: Melbourne]
Iconic British sports car
Chassis number: 860409
Engine number: R5023-9
A beautiful example of Jaguar’s E-Type in its purest form, this 1962 3.8 Series 1 is the 409th of the first 500 Fixed Head Coupes (FHC) built.
Completed on 13 April 1962 and dispatched on 1 May 1962 to Jaguar dealers Henly’s of London, this is an inside bonnet latch car and features the early pressed alloy dash panel and centre console.
Its 3.8 litre Jaguar straight six matching numbers engine has an SP straight port head with the correct R suffix, sitting in a clean engine bay which presents in original style.
Originally factory finished in Gunmetal Grey, the E-Type FHC has been subsequently repainted in bright red as part of an extensive refurbishment, and today presents in immaculate condition throughout, with lovely paintwork over chrome wire wheels, with a biscuit-coloured leather-trimmed cabin and matching carpets.
Indicating 107,558 miles, it is a genuinely nice example of a highly collectible classic.
