This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC is a charming example of the iconic British sports car, which has benefitted from previous restoration work.
Under the bonnet is a 3.8-litre straight-six, which delivers around 265bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
An accompanying letter from Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust confirms that ‘flat floor’ production ceased with chassis number 860176. Therefore, this model with chassis number 860280 is an early example of the ‘heel well’ variant.
The E-Type is understood to be a four-owner car.
The accompanying history file contains supporting history from 1978 onwards and documents an extensive programme of restoration work in the early 1980s which included the fitment of various replacement panels and subsequent colour change to red, an engine rebuild, new suspension and braking components, and an interior retrim in cream leather.
The file then documents upkeep throughout the 1980s, with further maintenance detailed up to 2014. The Jaguar was the subject of further recommissioning work between 2015 and 2016, but unfortunately the paperwork for this is missing.
It has been dry-stored as part of a collection since 2016, regularly run and moved but covered only around 300 miles.
In preparation for sale, it has recently been serviced, issued with a clean MOT test pass and machine polished so that it is ready to enjoy.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The accompanying Jaguar Daimler Vehicle Information Sheet confirms that it was originally specified in Sherwood Green over Suede Green; but this Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC is now finished in red, over a cream leather-trimmed interior.
It rides on a set of 15-inch polished wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hub nuts, which are fitted with period-style Vredestein tyres.
Equipment includes a wooden-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Smiths instrument dials and auxiliary gauges, toggle switches, winding windows, heating and ventilation, and a push-button radio.
The Jaguar is accompanied by the aforementioned history file and Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Correspondence.
Please note: the HPI check shows a marker for an unrelated vehicle from 2003. The seller requested an investigation by CAP HPI, and they have received confirmation that this E-Type is not connected to the marker.
CONDITION
Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
Specific notes from the seller include: the E-Type recently received a single-stage machine polish to revitalise the 2015 paintwork and is now said to present beautifully, though it would benefit from some new rubber seals around the chromework to complement the condition of the revitalised paint. There are some minor signs of wear to the driver’s outside seat upright.
The most recent MOT test was on 26 June 2024 at an indicated 3,215 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.
SERVICE HISTORY
The car was serviced in June 2024. This included a level check and the fitment of new lower ball joints.
While various recommissioning work was carried out between 2015 and 2016, unfortunately the paperwork for this is not present.
There are numerous documents showing upkeep throughout the 1980s and more detailed maintenance up to 2014.
It received an extensive programme of restoration work in the early 1980s which included the fitment of various replacement panels and subsequent colour change to red, an engine rebuild, new suspension and braking components, and an interior retrim in cream leather.
