At the end of the campaign, SGR 167 was reassembled back to road specifications using the original factory parts, which had been meticulously preserved, and then dry stored and never used again.
In 2008, the E-Type was sold to a world famous Maserati collector from Modena, Italy, and stored for several years in a private collection.
The E-Type became part of The de Mel collection in 2014, awaiting restoration, and now resides in South London.
Chassis number 860137 is the second from last RHD 1961 car to be built by the factory, and represents one of the rare occasions when the cars were not built precisely in chassis number order:
860133 - December 1961
860134 - January 1962
860135 - 860138 - December 1961
860139 onwards - January 1962
As the last 1961 car built by Jaguar is no longer in existence, 860137 is therefore the last surviving RHD E-Type built by Jaguar in 1961.
A total of 47,494 miles are displayed on the odometer, which represents the road miles the E-Type prior to Modsport conversion. Offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed, this rare and desirable early 'flat floor' E-Type comes with a heritage certificate.
The E-Type retains all of its original features following the reassembly back to road specifications. This includes the original early-type bonnet with the welded-in louvres. It also retains its original engine and gearbox, flat floors, and finer detailed 1961 specific components, down to original Triplex glass, cheney clamps, smooth sump, extra thick driveshafts and 1961 Lucas ancillaries. The engine and gearbox are matching numbers, with the block embossed 11th December 1961. The original Mist Grey paint is visible in several areas, as is the original maroon interior. The engine spins freely by hand, and shows signs of a rebuild being carried out decades ago, in keeping with the 1972-2009 owners account. Note, the fiberglass Modsport bonnet comes with the E-Type, as pictured on the Telegraph website.
SGR 167 represents a rare opportunity to acquire perhaps the last 1961 RHD barn find, unrestored example, with a fabulous history and intriguing past ownership.

This 1962 E-type is a car with a most interesting history. Built in very late 1961 and first registered in early 1962, the car evolved somewhat from the factory specification as by the 1970's it was competing in the Brighton Speed Trials in "Modsport" specification. The car acquired some "period" fibreglass additions including wide rear wheelarches, a "kam-tail" rear spoiler, and a differeent bonnet with frontal "air dam". There are some period pictures of the car in this format, with the fibreglass bonnet still accompanying the car today. The car has subsequently been restored back to it's factory specification, finished in Mist Grey with Maroon interior. The car has its original engine and gearbox, as well as the correct "welded-louvre" bonnet and "flat-floors". The car is offered for sale by Jaguar Classic with 12 months warranty.
