Bought this car here in Melbourne from a gentleman who has owned it for over 30 years.

There seem to be two cars with this identity. I remember seing 860021 at a Jag concours here in Melbourne ,Australia in 1980. It was in very good condition throughout and registered XK 138. The original owner was Champion Spark Plugs in the UK and was registered 6697 RW. The car for auction in 2002 was either wrongly identified or an 'imposter' in my opinion.

There is a reference to an opalescent blue FHC chassis number 860021 of 1961 in "Jaguar Quarterly March/April 1992 p108.

It said the car was in Melbourne Australia and maintained in tip-top condition and has a number of competition fittings and is thought by its owner to possibly be the Lucas entry in the Alpine Rally 1962. Said to have a genuine 39000 miles and there is a list of three previous owners in Great Britain before it went to Australia in late 1974. A photograph of the car is reproduced in the magazine. Is this the genuine one?. The chronology certainly ties up with what Jeremy Clements wrote above in 2006.

Michael, this is the same car, the mileage was genuine. I still own the car, I bought it at around 52000miles, it is now showing a genuine 62000miles which I have the pleasure of racking up over the last 14 years.

Can anyone here offer any learned advice on whether this car originally had external bonnet latches?

James, if you have any photos of my car from the car show in 1980, I'd be very interested to catch up and have a look.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
