Car to be at auction 7/10
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

Auction description:
Sale 18214 - Collectors' Motor Cars and Related Automobilia, 24 Jul 2010
Silverstone Classic
Lot No: 123
1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster
Registration no. BOC 53B
Chassis no. 850901
Engine no. RA 7095-9
Estimate: £18,000 - 22,000

According to a 'Green Continuation Log Book' issued in 1977 by the Staffordshire County Council recording a change of registration, this Jaguar 'E-Type Sports' in black with chassis number 850901 and engine number RA7095-9 of 3781cc capacity was originally registered 3 July 1964. The E-Type - a desirable right-hand drive Series 1 roadster and, being made pre-October 1964, fitted with the earlier 3.8-litre engine - still had the ACD 122B registration on an Aldridge garage issued MoT of 12 January 1977 by when the mileage had risen to 78,288, ownership passing to Charles Court of nearby Burntwood, Walsall, 14 January 1977.
Following acquisition by a Warwickshire landscaping company in the late 1970s, Auto Cellulose of Warley was commissioned to undertake what was clearly a comprehensive glass and trim-out restoration (captured in two old photos among the paperwork). Indeed, their 15 November 1983 invoice lists renewal of bonnet/front wings assembly, rear wings and boot lid, and includes a full repaint and an interior retrim with the seats in hide. By 30 April 1985, the owning firm's proprietor had become the registered keeper.
Further and extensive mechanical refurbishments to engine, suspension and brakes were then carried out by the Croft Garage of Bromford, all their work fully documented in invoices on file from November 1985 to June 1986, as well as from November 1986 and August 1987, by when a change of plates to the current BOC 53B registration had been recorded by the Department of Transport.
It would appear that shortly after this, however, that the restored car with rebuilt engine was taken off the road and not driven again. Indeed, when retrieved from long-term storage for this sale, a polling card from 7 May 1987 was found in the glovebox, the most recent tax disc ran out 30 April 1989 and the latest MoT certificate on file expired 7 September 1991.
While there are some minor dents and the paintwork is certainly marked in various places from furniture being stored on the bodywork, the oil on the dipstick appears still to be fresh and clean and the engine does turn over. Although not necessarily requiring a full restoration again, the exterior at least should certainly respond well to some cosmetic attention and the guide price duly reflects current condition of the car, which is being sold 'as seen'. For after 20 years of inactivity, full mechanical re-commissioning of all systems will be necessary before submission for an MoT and any return to the road can be contemplated.
Present registration, description, colour, body type, engine capacity, transmission being manual, VIN, engine number, date of first registration in the UK and year of manufacture all check out in a 'Used Vehicles Autocheck Report' conducted 22 June 2010 by Experian who gave the car a "Clear" in terms of past history. The DVLA have also advised us that all identifying details of this vehicle, which they confirm is still registered in the vendor's name at the address recorded in the late 1980s, are on their database and the issue of the latest V5C to a new owner would be a formality.
A genuine home market Series 1 E-Type roadster, particularly of pre-1965 manufacture and therefore eligible for most forms of international historic motor sport, rarely come to market at anywhere near the price level estimated.

Jaguar E Type 3.8 Series 1.5 Roadster
Black, red leather, classic, collectors, 1964, restored

DescriptionJaguar E Type 3.8 Roadster. Series 1.5. Matching No.s. Restored a few years ago then lived in storage. Very original car supplied in beautiful condition. These cars are fetching ridiculous sums of money at auction. I've seen cars in this condition sell recently for almost double the money. It really wouldn't take much to make this car a concours show winner. A wise investment in the current market.

For sale at Abbeyfield Sports and Classics of Chertsey for £129,950. Seller's description below. The URL is
www.abbeyfieldclassics.co.uk/index.php/2016/10/06/1964-jaguar-e-type-series-1-ro ...

First registered in July 1964, this exceptional series 1 roadster is finished in Black with Red leather interior and black soft top. The 3.8 litre twin cam straight six was fully stripped and rebuilt with ported cylinder head for optimum torque delivery, and fitted with uprated oil pump and rebuilt carburettors in 2013 and in February 2015 the gearbox received an overhaul, cementing the car's stunning mechanical condition. With some remedial bodywork also sympathetically completed, the original and beautifully patented interior make this E Type a truly exceptional example of the marque. This roadster comes complete with an extensive history file showing the level of expenditure bestowed upon it throughout its life and also includes the original green Log Book and a Heritage Certificate issued by JDHT. A beautifully preserved car, we are thrilled to now offer this style icon of the Sixties for sale.
