I owned and restored this car in the late 70's The body was very rusty I opted to change the body using the shell from a wrecked car (frontend damage no damage to the tub) Doors were re skinned the frames along with all the mechanical components were transferred from the rusty body. Original boot lid was in good shape and a new bonnet was fitted. Original bumpers rechromed and a new black interior fitted. I sold the car around 1982 I hope that it is still alive and well

My dad owned this car in the early 70's.
I have a photo of my mum sat on the bonnet.
My dad always told me that he was driving mum away on holiday in the car and it broke down so he swapped it for a cortina with a man in a pub.
Mark, were you that man?
I'd love to buy the car if anyone knows where it is...

www.sayerselection.com/1963-jaguar-etype-series-i/
A superb example of a 1963 right hand drive Jaguar series 1 roadster painted in its original carmen red colour with matching black hardtop and black leather interior. This E Type was modified and maintained by an enthusiast for competition at club level. The vehicle has recently undergone a cosmetic and mechanical update to FIA standards and now comes with 10 year HTP papers. Recently completed, the roadster will be ideal for today's historic competition either as a circuit or tour car. This is a unique opportunity to acquire an early right hand drive, FIA standard, Series 1 roadster with long term ownership.

Clarifications for inaccuracies for 173 KVA
The car was owned in the 1970’s by Bob Crossey of Derbyshire he used the car at some point at Donnington Park where it sustained bonnet damage. At this point he replaced the steel bonnet with an alloy assembly and also replaced the doors and boot lid with alloy panels using an alloy hardtop as per semi lightweight specification including peg drive wheels.
The engine for the cars matching numbers was removed and retained to the present day with the car. Swallow Engineering built a 3.8 weber carb engine for planned competition use. A 4.2 E head is fitted to the unit and the original moss gearbox was retained and is still in the car.
The completion of the rebuild was becoming too much for Bob so he asked Brian Stone of Rydal Garage in Sheffield to finish off the car and make ready for use. This was done by Rydal and the car was delivered back to Bob in 2012.
After Bob passed away the car was acquired by his daughter and her husband Adam Beadsmore. They used the car for high days and holidays in the Derbyshire countryside.
At this time the car was sent to M & C Wilkinson Ltd for a refresh and the decision was made to make the car FIA Appendix K paper 100 compliant. The exhaust manifold and front brakes were changed and the whole car was repainted changing the hardtop colour to Black.
Due to a relocation from Derbyshire Adam Beadsmore placed the car with Sayer Selection Limited to be sold.
The FIA HTP papered car was purchased by Chris Scragg, the noted Historic racer, to be used as a weekend fun car. To make the car more user friendly he had GB trim fit new soft trim retaining the original Black leather seats

The Classic Sale at Silverstone 2022
Lot Number 469
Registration Number 173 KVA
Chassis Number 850728
Body Colour Red
The car presented here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster with a hardtop in the mould of those fast-road competition cars of the mid-sixties era. It was owned and campaigned for many years by a gentleman racer and enthusiast from Derbyshire, who modified and maintained it for competition use at club level. With a view to being more competitive, he subsequently fitted an aluminium roof, doors, bonnet, and boot lid (possibly crafted by RS Panels of Nuneaton) and magnesium racing wheels whilst also having a race engine built and installed (we understand) by Jaguar specialists Swallows. After the owner sadly died, the car was left to his daughter, who eventually took it to M&C Wilkinson Ltd., who have over 40 years’ experience of Jaguar restorations, servicing, parts supply, and historic race preparation. The car underwent a meticulous cosmetic and mechanical update to FIA standards and now comes with HTP papers. Fully repainted in Carmen Red with a Black roof, like so many of the famous racing E-Types of the past, this very capable Roadster is ideal for today's historic competition, either as a circuit or tour car.
The car was subsequently sold to a well-known Jaguar-racing customer of M&C Wilkinson Ltd., who only has his cars prepared to the very best of standards, hence how well it presents and drives today. Given some cabin comfort by GB Classic Trim with well-appointed seats, proper peg-drive wheels and its original Moss gearbox, this is a fast-driving E-Type, eminently usable and now with FIA HTP papers to allow for involvement in proper competition, should the new owner wish to do so. It's accompanied by its matching-numbers original engine, as a spare.
