This car was consigned to the above auction from the extensive Jaguar collection of the ICS History of Jaguar museum Maldon Essex.
It had been first registered in 1962 with a private plate REG 3 for a Mr Basterble of Peterborough.
It was fully restored in the mid 1980s by Garry Corpe of Nottingham and acquired by the museum in January 1986. There is a fine photo of the car in the official museum guidebook (p.32) and an excellent colour photo in the Brooks auction catalogue (p.73)

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
