    CC 3800
    M.O.T JAN 2005
In March 1961, Jaguar announced their revolutionary new sports-car, available in either open 2-seater or fixed head coupe form, with monocoque chassis, aerodynamic body panels and headlamps faired in to the wings.
From the 850428 chassis number, this Browns Lane works built Jaguar roadster is one of the last of the early right-hand drive E Types. As presented today, in the period correct Carmen Red paintwork with black leather trim, it is to the original specification as it left the Coventry factory in 1962. The Lucas PL headlights, as supplied to the early models, the correct steering wheel as well as the now politically incorrect ashtray set into the dashboard are as they should be. Indeed, all the numbers of the major components, including the gearbox, are still intact and matching, and even the distinctive registration has been on the car from new.
In receipt of what has clearly been a sympathetically executed restoration, and although not to concours d'elegance standard, the 3.8-litre 6-cylinder powered sports is said to be in good overall condition with fair paintwork and good interior. Wire wheels and tyres have been renewed, as have heater box, radiator and header tank, whilst motor, 4-speed manual gearbox and electrical equipment are reportedly all in good order. Apart from there being lots of former bills detailing work carried out, we understand that the history file contains a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming manufacturing details. The vendor also tells us that he will have driven this desirable motor car to Buxton.

    Car returned to auction 12/09

    Auction description:
    Lot : 54
    1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster
Desirable flat floor car, recent engine overhaul
    SOLD for £35200
    Registration No: 9045 AP
    Chassis No: 850428
    Engine No: R4496-9
    CC: 3781
    Colour:Red
    Trim Colour: Black
    MOT: April 2010

Finished in Carmen Red with black leather upholstery and supplied new by Henlys of London, this particular `flat floor' example was road registered as `9045 AP' on 23rd March 1962. A `matching numbers' car in terms of its chassis, cylinder block and cylinder head numbers, the two-seater is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed Moss gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Said to be "very quick with a fantastic exhaust note", the E-type was treated to a thorough engine overhaul in May 2009. As well as being reground the crankshaft was treated to a rear oil seal conversion, while the rest of the straight six benefited from a spin-on oil filter, uprated fan, improved starter motor, high-flow oil pump, twin exhaust silencer assembly, fresh main / big-end bearings, new 9:1 pistons and an unleaded cylinder head conversion (new inlet / exhaust valves and springs etc). The work which cost circa £8,500 was completed less than 1,000 miles ago. Riding on chrome wire wheels, this gorgeous Jaguar is offered for sale with Heritage Certificate, numerous old MOTs, assorted invoices, engine refurbishment photos and MOT certificate valid until April 2010.

    Car listed as sold at:

    www.bradfieldcars.com/cars/1962-jaguar-e-type-series-1-flat-floor/

    Seller's description:

    1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 ‘Flat-floor’

    Chassis No: 850428

    Registration No: 9045 AP

This is an exceptional early example of the rare ‘Flat-floor’ Roadster. The car was comprehensively rebuilt in 2010 to concours standards and enhanced by numerous upgrades that include a 5 speed Getrag gearbox, power steering, up-rated four pot brakes, stainless steel exhaust, aluminium radiator and header tank coupled with an electric fan. The car was completely rewired during the process so that car has the performance and reliability that match its good looks.

The car comes from a most discerning collector and is offered for sale with matching numbers, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, MOT and current V5 Registration Document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
